Tropical Storm Dennis Heading For Jamacia and Haiti

Miami, FL (AHN) - Tropical Storm Dennis is currently making progress through the Caribbean Sea as the storm wraps its center with numerous thunderstorms and tropical storm force winds.

Dennis is aiming for for a date with the Gulf of Mexico later in the week as a Category 2 Hurricane.

The storm is presently 315 miles south-southwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico with winds of 40 mph and rocketing off to the west-northwest at 20 mph.

Strengthing is expected in the next 24-hours. A hurricane watch has been posted by the Jamacian government as well as the government's of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Well even without a storm the rains of the last few weeks have already done a lot of damage.
Jamaica's poverty and environmental degradation has put it on almost a similar footing with Haiti (something I predicted), any heavy rain will cause serious damage due to land slippage.

i tried calling a friend in mobay and the digicel network is out. i called again a half hour later and my friend was surprised i actually got through but the connection was horrid.

i remember how wrecked my nerves were last fall with ivan. i called right as the hurricane was passing through and could hear the wind howling like mad. i did a lot of praying that night. and then spent the rest of the week calling everyone i knew to make sure they were ok. my phone bill was insane!

I managed to get through on phone about 8 hours ago and it was really bad connection, but not since - that is, not since I heard about Dennis on its way. And my phone was similar during Ivan - on-off-on, phones cutting out, lousy connection etc.

Oh well, a busy season was forecast. Let's just hope people stay safe.

Oh no, not again!! It IS too soon after Ivan especially since some of theose who were affected to the point of still being homeless haven't received any help, financial and otherwise.

Praying that this one will pass.

I thought that I would get off this island before any hurricanes. Aw well, the Lord wants me here to feel the effects. May God be with my adopted country and all the wonderful people who live here.
