PM TO RETURN TO LONDON

The Prime Minister has been kept in close touch with developments and made a live televised statement from the G8 summit at Gleneagles at noon.

Mr Blair said the attacks were apparently the work of terrorists designed to coincide with the G8 and described then as "barbaric".


He said he intends to return to London to see the situation himself and would fly back to Scotland later tonight.

Mr Blair said: "Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their families."

He said: "It is particularly barbaric that this has happened on a day when people are meeting to try to help the problems of poverty in Africa, the long-term problems of climate change and the environment."

The Prime Minister added: "It is important, however, that those engaged in terrorism realise that our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people in a desire to impose extremism on the world."

The summit will continue, in Mr Blair's absence, at the wish of the other G8 leaders.

Mr Blair continued: "Each of the countries around that table has some experience of the effects of terrorism, and all the leaders, as they will indicate a little bit later, share our complete resolution to defeat this terrorism."

gosh, i don't know what to make of it all. am glued to teevee and radio, hoping that before long the whole business becomes clear. i really feel it for the families of those who were killed.

i selfishly hope everyone in our jamaicans.com family is safe, and their family who live and work around those places affected.

well am at my Mom's place and we are all watching the news, but nothing new. we haven't heard anything from my granpa and his girlfriend [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]ray: land and mobile lines down, we cannot get through anymore. We spoke with other family memebers in Britain earlier on and they saw them yesterday but have not heard anything from them today. Anyone heard from England girl or Neutral, hoping they are OK.

Hoping and praying my GRanpa and Lady friend are OK

GROUP CLAIMS ATTACKS

A terror group linked to al Qaeda has claimed it carried out a series of terror attacks on London that have left a number of people dead and hundreds injured.


A previously unknown group calling itself "Secret Organisation al Qaeda in Europe" said it carried out the attacks.

Two London hospital have reported a total of 185 wounded after a series of blasts hit locations across the city on buses and Tube stations.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there was evidence of explosives at at least one of the six sites.

Scotland Yard has denied reports they were warned of an attack by Israel minutes before the blasts.

Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 90 people injured in the explosion at Aldgate Station.
