ND did set to ride my bike this evening to brownies and was so disappointed that I got her bike fixed
A friend of mine has offered to come across London to help me, hopefully on Sunday. It's unlikely that I'll have drummed up the courage to try before then anyway. R+ I went to a specialist bike shop and having read some info beforehand and consulted with my cyclist friend AND my cycling instructor, I do have the right size bike. That's why it's so galling to see ND ride my bike with ease AND she still a few inches shorter than my oh so tall 4'11

Englan, you can also put training wheels on adult bikes I have seen it. I mean it does look ridiculous to see a grownup with training wheels [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] but........you gotta do what you gotta do

I suggested that to ND and she was adamant it couldn't work did I just write that? Am I turning into a child and ND the adult?
Englan....i'm chuckling along...and trying to recall those first few pedals without MY training wheels.
Just keep pedaling...this is all about trust...
have faith my dear...the bike will keep rolling as long as you're pedaling...you can always put your feet down...no biggy. don't worry about the idgits watching you...they had to learn too!

couple years ago my friends Mom decided that as part of her exercise program she would go riding. Well dang!! no matter how hard she tried she could not get the hang of it so she took her bike to the bike shop and had them outfit it with training wheels. Before long she had them removed and is now riding up a storm, alll she needed was that bit of confidence I remember we used to laugh out heads off seeing her with them training wheels, give it a try eh [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Damask, I am sorely tempted to do that but I just don't have the courage to try. I'd feel to embarrassed despite this post. I'll rethink it if I don't improve.

England... I can help you on this.. There is an organisation in London that help adults to ride. It is run by volunteers... It is sponsored by various Councils.. there is a fee. They provide bikes.. Meet you in a park of your choice......
And it works.. I learnt to ride in three hours last year.. I too was embarrassed by the fact that as an adult I could not ride.. (Was too poor to own a bike as a kid...) I went to Peckham Rye Park, and it was witnessed by several ladies that ran a play group my daughter attended... They did not laugh... In fact they were encouraging....
The group are very supportive. There is a website... I was taught by a black guy who went to a public school.. He understood my reluctance... Please take this option it is safer and is better than struggling on your own.... I think I will dig out his number and give him a call next time I am in London....
