I have very much enjoyed reading this thread. I feel like I have such a fuller understanding of you, CEW.

I have long thought that, "In everything you do preach Christ, and if necessary, use words," is perfect for you, as it really exemplifies your behaviour at Jamaicans.com.

I hope your students know how lucky they are to have a professor like you. Although I'd probably annoy the heck out of you, I think I would enjoy taking one of your classes. I'd be the student in the second row testing your mettle with all my provocative questions. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

BYS: I *welcome* positive challenges as they are stepping stones to knowledge. How else would I keep abreast of what the latest critical thoughts are and the various arguments to counter them? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I do believe however that critical scholars have an equal responsibility to read arguments against their positions before trying to annoy or test a professor [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

I usually make it a point to read all a professor's relevant works when attending their class, especially if it's a subject close to my heart. (It's one of the ways I determine which history classes to take.) Are you published yet? Any theses out there for us to read? Inquiring minds want to know! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

And I agree with you about studying opposing positions and staying abreast of them. Critical thinking requires us to examine opposing view points. It's not about being right, its about gaining a better understanding. That often requires us to modify our position or arguemnt, but that is a part of learning too -- the most exciting part, in my view.

I have been writing for over 5 years and the majority of those works have been published in the two newsletters I mentioned, plus in a couple of online e-zines in the past, but no books as yet. I do have all the material ready for my first book though . Can't say too much about it at this point other than it is oriented towards helping struggling Christians and those wanting a deeper relationship with God, but it's coming [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

The greatest thrill was hearing from a lady in Australia regarding one of the pieces in one of the e-zines, and knowing that one of the newsletters goes out to over 5,000 prisoners and shut-ins across the US bimonthly. I have heard from the Editor of that particular magazine regarding testimonies/comments from readers as well. The other newsletter goes out across North America and the Caribbean. It is a tremendous blessing to be able to use that gifting.

Agreed. Too much of what I see as arguments against Christianity and the Bible have long been discarded by "professional" critics. Others arguments have been answered by theologians, historians and archaelogists and are well documented. The opposite is also true. A lot of what some Christians talk about are not quite Biblically sound, yet there is ample documentation on some of those issues written in an easy manner for the lay-person to understand. Ah, the joys of learning.
