Well, there is a first time for everything. Never thought I would side with Blu but here I am. Now, why do we seem to think that young beautiful black models are one step away from prostitution? Would we think the same if they were white girls with blonde hair and blue eyes? Or would we think that they are one step away from making it in Hollywood?

who says it only happens to young black girls? Wake up and smell the coffee my friend. How do you think a lot of those people make it to Hollywood and onto the runways of Paris and France? Its funny how people jump from A to Z.

These young girls are expected to sleep with photographers, video producers, etc and a lot of them do..for some dream they're chasing. Have you ever listened are spoken to anyone in the industry? How much worse do you rhink it is if you're from a economically disenfranchised?

Big difference between being a model--a professional, working long hours to perfect what you do--and being a video hoochie--make oneself as sexually appealing as possible while grinding on some singer!
Yes we must be vigilant against exploitation but not at the expense of recognizing that black women are as beautiful--if not more so! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]--than any other ethnic group! These pictures are tasteful and there is no overt sexuality being displayed--unlike in some videos where it is blatantly obvious what the girls are there for. And even then, I was only using the "video hoochie" thing to make a point about educating women to help slow the spread of AIDS.
Let's not get to the point where we can't see a beautiful black woman without instantly coming up with a negative connotation. Just my two cents! Thanks!

I think you have a highly romanticised view of the industry. Have you ever spoken to anyone in the industry? You think those pictures are professional and tasteful?? You know what..go ahead and enjoy the pwetty pictures and don't think about the sordid truth behind them...at this level these models often have to trade sex for opportunity.

that particular coversation sprang to mind because i had it happened quite recently..

One question Arjin...do you think that sometimes women think they can make it in the world of modeling and really are (let's be kind) not model material. From what I see most of the women pictured in this thread would really not have much of a chance in the REAL world of modeling. Do you think that women that THINK they are model material fall victim to the predators in that business? America’s Top Models Search was going on right across the street from where I work yesterday and from what I saw most of them were fairly delusional if they thought they were model material. What I am happy to see is more ethnic models, just my personal opinion, much better looking than Anglo women.
