So. FLA: Temporary housing??

not sure if this is the correct forum to put this - but since we have so many boardites in South Florida i wanna pick y'alls brains for some networking information....

i'll be comin down there for a month in september/october and am lookin temporary housing in the North Miami/South Lauderdale area.

something like a cottage, efficiency, M-I-L apt, or sublet - not one a them pricey 'extended stay' hotels, and not a room in somebaddy house

i've looked all over the www - Craigslist, Sublet.com, VRBO.com, corporate relocation, and regular apt rental websites. haven't found much other than 'vacation' type accomodations at over 1000.00/month, (too high), or rooms in shared houses. (nope) (gak!)

Does anyone know any somebody that has something like this to rent at a non-vacation price, for a one-month short-term? Or have any links for websites i can check?

thanks JD, yes, nothing so far. Their online classifieds is way frustrating - they have rooms & sublet in the same section. right now it's all rooms in shared houses.

there's also many regular long-term rentals in there - ppl are sneakin in them regular rental ads, nothin in there for sublet.

will keep checkin it, never know what might show up.

HOw much you willin to pay?

500-800/month??

The extended stay would work out to be about $250/week....

if you do a short term rental or something it just might end up being the same price for a decent area

oh, also the bi-weekly flyer i get in the mail usually lists residential housing options...they should have a website, not sure how great is is

They have lil motels/efficiencies/studio down in hollywood area and along the beach that seem to be short term rentals..

have no idea about how to contact them though

but how to find/contact dem from here?

chuss mi i have already exhaustively checked the usual channels, is why i am on here checkin for ppl's personal &quot;outside the box&quot; knowledge

it might not help me with 'this' issue, but when i'm ready to move and rent a fulltime place they got <span style="font-style: italic">ALL</span> the good suss on afffordable rentals....

Would you consider a hostel? I know a lot of the seasonal hotel and yacht workers use them. You get a basic clean room, no luxuries...some don't even have TV's.

Google hostels, hostels miami, hostels ft lauderdale, etc.

Keep in mind, some may be dumps. But most are clean. I think my GF lives across the street from one. Right downtown Ft Lauderdale. The building looks clean from the outside. Let me know if you are interested. I'm going that way this weekend.

thanks peps, but definite <span style="font-weight: bold">no</span> on hostels. i need a grown-up place to really be able to live decent (not fancy, just decent) while i'm there. has to be private and secure - will have valuable musical instruments, laptop, etc. And no way will i share intimate space like bath and kitchen wit no strangers, am a stickler about kitchen cleanliness &amp; food prep, etc. - has to be for private use only!

what i'm really after is somethin like a MIL apt., efficiency above someone's garage, cottage out backa the main house - somethin like that....

most of the efficiencies i know are on the beach. and they are rented/managed by property management agencies/and or the hotel management office.

you made need to just choose your specific area and also contact realtors in that block since they would know the property mgmt offices, but they also locate renters as well
