Mr. Governor Bush came to the Bahamas and warned them that if they did not release two dentists back to Miami, he was going to shut down the country...or something like that.Let me see if I can find any write - up.

This is part of the story that has brought on the supposed raxing up...according to another newspaper which tells the underside of things...



"Florida Governor Jeb Bush looks almost certain to raise the alleged attack on an American TV journalist when he meets (Bahamian)Prime Minister Perry Christie in the capital today.

The younger brother of United States President George W Bush is also likely to bring up the alleged mistreatment of Cuban detainees in Nassau, who were destined for the Sunshine State.

Two weeks ago, the Cuban row blew up when Florida-based WLTV-Univision 23 reporter, Mario Vallejo, claimed that he was attacked by a Royal Bahamas Defence Force Officer while outside the Carmichael Road Detention Centre.

Mr Vallejo said he was covering a story involving Cuban detainees. The incident created front-page headlines in Florida.

Governor Bush's visit just happens to coincide with calls from Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen for an end to the alleged mistreatment of Cubans detained in The Bahamas.

After boarding an early morning flight from Florida, Governor Bush will spend the day with PM Christie and United States Ambassador to The Bahamas John Rood, to discuss closer Florida-Bahamas links. "Prime Minister Christie, Governor Bush and Ambassador Rood [will] announce a series of follow-up meetings regarding key Florida/Bahamas partnerships," the statement read.

<font color="orange"> But it is also likely that the government officials will discuss the 10-month detention of two Cuban Dentists, who won a US immigration lottery in 2002. </font>

American officials stationed here have already expressed concern for Dr David Gonzalez Mejias and Marialys Darias Mesa, who fled their homeland last April, in an attempt to be reunited with their families in The United States. But they were picked up by a US Coast Guard Cutter off Bimini and handed over to Bahamian officials.

United States Director of Missions, Dr Brent Hardt said on Thursday, that he hopes the matter concerning the two Cuban dentists, is resolved swiftly.

"We certainly hope that this issue will be resolved and resolved expeditiously," said Dr Hardt. "These two individuals have been in detention for 10 months now, which is a long time to be in a detention centre.

"We think its an issue the Government can resolve-has the authority to resolve it and we hope that they will do so quickly," he continued. "We think these people should be in The United States and reunited with their families."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a Press Release stated on Wednesday, that "The Bahamas finds itself unwittingly in a geopolitical storm not of our making and which the Government is trying to resolve in everyone's favour."

Minister Mitchell said it requires the co-operation of all Governments involved.

As regards to what will happen with the two doctors, he said that "their status is being reviewed, and a decision will be made as timely as the exigencies of this situation permits."
