Dominica... Anyone been there?

I've been looking at other islands.. so as to be sure before investing in land or place in Jamaica...

Dominica is one island I've always wanted to go to.. very lush.. mountainous.. lots of rivers and waterfalls.. most of the beaches but not all are black....

i just have no idea about the island..itself...

if you've been can you share some insight?

i can give u a tiny tidbit of vicarious info - used to go with a guy from there.... he always said it was gorgeous, serene, very quiet, very old-style carribbean vibe - not geared to tourists atALL. (although there are a few guest houses and such)

seems like a place you would L O V E....

i read somehtin on one a dem tripadvisor-type sites, oh no wait, it was the Phila Inquirer.... about a family that went there, was a nice trip report....lemme see ifn i kin find it in their online archives

Let mi tell yuh..it is beautiful. I just got back from there a month ago. My husband is from there. I will do a trip report soon hopefully. It is very mountanous and they have amazing sulpha baths. I've also been to the carib reserve where the descendants of the caribs reside. If you need any more info jus PM me.

Domincan Republic is shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti

Dominica is a small island in the Winward Islands of the eatern caribbean

I think Dominica had the first woman Prime Minister in the Caribbean. Apparently is the only island which still has a Taino population.

try the "Mountain Chicken" when you go....it's an island delicacy.... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] although I decided not to try it....

well I finally had to ask "Is the chicken cooked a special way and what's so special about chickens from the mountains as opposed to right here on the flat ?".... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]
