Although some of her work reflects an African theme, Watson is not afraid to explore different cultures.

“Though I am an African woman steeped in African spirituality, that does not mean I exclude others,” she said.

Dressed in a brown, blue and green caftan, her thick, brown dreadlocks cascading past her lower back, Watson talked about her desire to taste the world.

“I think I am a little nomad...I want to travel, experience different cultures,” she said.

Born in Diego Martin, Watson followed her parents to Fort George, St James, then England, before proceeding on her life’s journey.

Her desire to pursue an art career led her from T&T to Jamaica and back.

“I always had this thing...this strange spiritual connection with Jamaica,” she said of the island where she spent 13 years.

It was in Kingston, at the Edna Manley School for the Creative Arts, that Watson honed her artistic skills.

Jamaica also stole her heart.



“Going there I found myself and I eventually married a Jamaican and my children, except for the last, were born there,” she revealed.

Having divorced, Watson decided to return home.
