Re: Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2006
Trinidad and Tobago's Kenisha Thom maintained her position last night as one of the most popular contestants when she was chosen as one of the top 20 finalists in the Miss Universe pageant held in Los Angeles, California.
The contest held at the Shrine Auditorium saw Thom going up against 85 other beauties from around the world.
Local Miss Universe Thom told Global Beauty.com-a leading online magazine-that she was looking forward to the pageant last night.
This is not the first time that Thom has represented T&T on the world stage.
In 2004, she represented this country in the Miss World Competition hosted in China and made it to the top ten finalists.
In recent interviews, she has said that she intended to do her best in representing T&T as its Miss Universe delegate.

Re: Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2006
KENISHA THOM, 22, Miss Trinidad and Tobago at this year’s Miss Universe pageant to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, promised her supporters through a long distance interview with Newsday yesterday, that she is going to do her best at the pageant.
Asked how she felt about Sunday’s finals, Thom said: “I feel very prepared. I’ve left it in God’s hands. Sometimes you want something so bad, but whatever God decides, would be best for me. I am going to do my best.”
Thom said she’s been “going good” so far and she has been receiving a lot of support from many in Los Angeles. “The most important thing is to remain calm and that is what I’m trying to do, although I wasn’t calm last night at the costume competition...but it still went good for me, the crowd response was good,” Thom said.
For the costume competition on Tuesday, Thom wore a butterfly costume designed by Sandra Hordatt. The results of that segment of the contest will be announced on Sunday night. Thom, who is an Accounting Technician, is inspired to follow in the footsteps of Penny Commissiong (Miss Universe 1977) and Wendy Fitzwilliam (Miss Universe 1998).
In Los Angeles, she has the support of her parents Gregory and Sinita Thom, brother Keilon, and Thom’s significant other Cory Selvon.
Thom was high in praise for local pageant franchise holder Peter Elias and his team for the work they did to get her to the competition level.
Judges for the finals are Miss Universe 2003 Amelia Vega, legendary actress Bo Derek, Miss USA 1997 finalist Claudia Jordan, ex-Dallas Cowboys football star Emmitt Smith, actor James Lesure, journalist Maria Celeste Arraras, fashion photographer Patrick McMullan, Santino Rice and The Apprentice television series winner Sean Yazbeck.

Re: Miss Trinidad & Tobago 2006
One view from Trinidad:
'This beautiful young woman was cheated, not only was she poised, confident and fantastic but she exuded warmth and charm. Dey cheat! No matter what, she is a winner. I often wonder why we even bother. We know she is a winner. We need to reconsider participating in this so-called Ms. Universe contest it should be re-named the "some other Universe contest." It was obvious they did not want anyone of color, but had no choice but to place her in the top ten to placate the audience for the moment. She was too stunning to ignore. Although Ms. Puerto Rico was my second choice I still say Dey cheat! '
...and another...
Why you had to add "black'to your comment?-Trinidad is a cosmopolitan society and being from east indian heritage,I probably felt more proud of her than you did!-Why do trinis always have to play the race game?-It's obvious she's black (and absolutely gorgeous) but sometimes I feel like some of you still living in the slavery days yes!-whether she was black, blue, brown, yellow or green, she made us proud and it's a breath of fresh air to read something really positive about TNT. Had she gotten into the first 5, I'm almost certain she would have won...As for "our'beautiful Kenisha Thom, good luck with all of your future endeavors...god bless!!!!! INDIAN Trini
...hmmm...
'I watched the pageant and I felt that Miss TnT looked good with the National Costume and Swimsuit Competitions.
Her "walk" and evening gown is what kept her out of the Top Five.'
...and until the next time around...God willing...
'Even though I am not from T&T, we all are one Caribbean people. We... are extremely proud of you.
