Re: puerto rico- 41 murders since start of year
Good heavens!
I totally missed this story.
41!!!
Jah Yout - please share if you can - where'd you read this - am very curious. Not because I'm doubting, just curious to read more on this.
You know just Sunday I was watching the news - the JA news - and there was a story on Trin & Tobago bringing CONVICTED FELON & TEEF, Bernie Kerick to battle crime as its gotten bad.
I'd heard about something of the sort last year but there was an outcry over his taking the job - if my memory serves - and I thought it didn't go thru.
I have to go look it up.
What a ting.

Gun violence across Puerto Rico leaves 7 dead on Kings Day

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Seven people were killed in shootings across Puerto Rico on Saturday, prompting the U.S. territory's top police official to plead for lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws.
The violence, which marred the Caribbean island's Three Kings Day celebrations, included a drive-by shooting of a minivan outside a fast-food restaurant in which two people died and two others were injured in a San Juan suburb, police said.
At a news conference, police chief Pedro Toledo urged the approval of pending legislation that would make it more difficult for islanders to import weapons from the U.S. mainland. Gunmakers have opposed the restrictions.
"Our biggest concern is the amount of weapons and ammunition on the streets," Toledo said.
The two victims killed in the parking lot in Guaynabo were identified as Leslie Machado Becerril, 18, and Christian Collazo Pacheco, 24. The other slayings were reported in Manati, Toa Alta, Caguas, Humacao and Loiza.
The U.S. territory of 3.9 million people averaged just more than two homicides a day last year. The 739 slayings marked a slight decrease from 2005. In most cases, the murders were linked to the drug trade, according to police.
