Gambling...

A lot of preachers preach against gambling, and in my opinion, quite rightly so. I recently asked a fellow Christian what I thought was an easy question: Why was gambling wrong, in the 'eyes' of the Church? The answer I got wasn't very convincing, i.e. it wouldn't have changed my mind or provide food for thought if I was a gambler, so I figured I would throw it out to see what others thought.

So fellow Christians, and whomever else may want to take a crack at it, let me hear your thoughts.

Webster's definition of gamble's inflected form, gambling:

1 a : to play a game for money or property b : to bet on an uncertain outcome
2 : to stake something on a contingency : take a chance.

So that would include all kinds of lotteries and anything else in between that involves playing a 'game' for money or property.

Interestingly, this came up in one of my Minsterial Ethics classes, and did provoke quite a lot of different responses.
