For Jamaican Nationals living in Canada...


NOTICE

The Jamaica High Commission at 275 Slater Street, Ottawa wishes to advise Jamaican Nationals of the time-table for the phasing out of the old type (blue) Jamaican Passports. Nationals who wish to obtain the new type machine-readable Passports may apply at any time. However, it should be noted that the blue passports remain valid until their date of expiration.

The phasing process is as follows:
~ Passports that will expire in the years 2005 - 2006 can be submitted for renewal as of April 30, 2004

~ Passports that will expire in the years 2007 - 2008 can be submitted for renewal as of September 30, 2004

~ Passports that will expire in the years 2009 - 2010 can be submitted for renewal as of March 31, 2005

~ Passports that will expire in the year 2011 can be submitted for renewal as of September 30, 2005

This information also applies to everybody that carries the book, especially here in New York. I was trying to get somebody to come on from the office, but too much red tape.

I forgot to mention about the Birth Certificate. To get a Passport, you have to supply the birth certificate with it, and it should have the purple stamp on it for it to be process.

The birth certificate takes about 6 weeks and the passport is almost 3 months wait.

for those living abroad the passport pictures and form must be signed by a Jamaican citizen who is a Pastor, Notart Public, Lawyer, Judge etc.. and if not you can pay a fee and it will be signed by the consulate.
It cost $141.00 Canadian for those who are living in Canada and it takes a bout 3 months you can pay extra and have them mailed the passport to you when it comes back to Canada or you can go to the Jamaican Consulate where you applie for it to go pick it up.

you also need the old passport too which they will send back to you when you get the new one.... you alos need 2 passport pictures and make sure you get the right sizes as each country have different sizes for their pass port pictures.

Please remember when taking passport pictures...no light colored clothing....

Turns out she may have to get an emergency passport but at least she got a link to a number.
