Obeah is not a 'spiritual practice' -- the Jamaican traditions which involve such practices of African origin such as Convince, Poco, or Kumina are very distinct from Obeah. It is sorcery -- that is to say, it is based on the deliberate manipulation of the world in order to achieve a given end.

I don't know that sounds like it could apply to allot of "Spiritual practices" out there, especially some of the larger religions

I was sent some wild herbs in the mail years ago by a native shaman friend so that I could acquire wealth and be prosperous. He also talked to the spirits for me and tried a negative thing on the oppressors so that I could succeed (Not quite sure what that was, he never told me). I thought this kinda sounded the same as Obeah.

By the way still I'm poor, still oppressed. I guess my herbs were broken [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Myal is a religion, combining elements of African (Yoruba and Ashanti, primarily) beliefs) with a scrim of Christian elements. Whether some practicioners of Revival or Poco are actually practicing Myal is, I think, a matter of interpretation.

sukuni ..you are far too obsessed with obeah,and the occult,...I am sure there are far more positive things in life to concern one`s self about......life is but one chance,its not a rehearshal,people born and die without even knowing if there was a reason for their existence,they take their existence for granted by filling it with negative things.......its reported that there is a comet heading for the earth,it should reach us by the year 2019,if it hits as predicted then all life forms should be obliterated for another 500 years or so until the planet replinshes itself...I for one welcomes this comet as it means that it can purge this planet.maybe if it does happens then there will be sufficient history left to remind the next inhabitants of earth to respect the planet and others within it and also purge their souls of evil thoughts towards each other.
