They were one of two peoples set aside to be totally wiped out in the Bible (the other being the Amalekites that I know of). Of course this upsets the consciences of many [critics] not to mention many Christians are stumped when asked the question why. Who were they?
Who were the Canaanites?

Re: Who were the Canaanites?
Why you always grinning Suki? Makes me feel as though you are not asking serious questions darling.
Anyway, the Canaanites and Cain had nothing to do with each other in any direct sense. The person you have in mind is Ham, Noah's middle son, who looked upon (which may mean, had sexual intercourse or made some sexual gesture) toward his father, Noah. He had a son Canaan upon whom a curse was pronounced apparently because in foresight he would mirror the perverse ways of his father or may have already begun at the time. Canaan was obviously the father of the Canaanites and based upon their remains, they were indeed perverse.

Re: Who were the Canaanites?
Sorry me mixed up Cain and Canaan. Store them same place in the brain you see
The grin was because I asked that question a few times but noone ever answered. So where is the land of Canaan?

Re: Who were the Canaanites?
For starters, the Canaanites had a practice of taking their firstborn children, sacrificing them and then entombing their bodies in the cornerstones of their new built homes as a way to stave off misfortune and appease the gods. Oh, they were also big on using child prostitutes in their temple "worship." In addition, they made their children "walk through" literal fire and at times offered them up to the gods in fire.

Re: Who were the Canaanites?
I found this page it has some very detailed history and on the second page a fairly detailed explanations of some of the rituals and ideologies of the Canaanites. Interesting I didn't realize there is a movement to reestablish the pagan rituals of the Canaanites. There is a link on the page to a witch who is reconstructing Canaanite paganism.

Yes sukuna, inscriptions on stelae and tablets. The use of stone inscriptions predated the use of papyri.
Remains of Caananite temples can be seen today in the Jordan valley and other Middle Eastern locations with rows of stelae still standing.
Here is what one of them look like now:

Re: Who were the Canaanites?
The Phoenicians were indeed their most famous exports. They were known for some very great feats most notably their sailing expeditions long BEFORE Columbus. We owe them our alphabet too. Modern archaeology is still stumped over Baalbek in Lebanon. Rebel look up that place. I for one will not buy the idea the Romans built it. In the same area (south Syria or northern Israel) is Gilgal Rephaim which means "circle of the giants." Legend states that a race of giants (the Repahims who are mentioned in the Bible as a branch of the original Nephilims, built it).
However, in biblical respects, Phoenicia's biggest export was the worship of the god Baal and his consort Ashtoreth (whose "poles" or "high places" [Phallic statues] were very popular and even mentioned in the bible as a place where mass orgies took place. She was the equivalent of the Babylonian Astarte (Easter) or Latin Venus (Egyptian Isis). His (Baal) worship included orgies, child sacrifice, and prostitutions. His stories were full of blood and gore which spilled over into the society or it was the other way around. One of his devotees was Jezebel (from Sidon in Phoenicia) who introduced his worship into Israel and in effect, corrupted and weakened the nation and made them ripe for an Assyrian takeover.
