Comming into this late, but please define "pervert". One man's "kink" is another's perversion. Where is the all agreed upon definition of pervert... other than as being ... one who engages in perverted activity? So what is the definition of "perverted" activity?

Really? What's the incidence among the Hausa? How does it compare to other groups in Africa? How does it compare to the rate in North Africa (much lower, btw)? Or are you going to claim that homo and bisexuality don't exist among the Arabs and Berbers?

To the person who brought up the Yiddish word "faygala":
It's not a literal translation/definition, but a slang one. It does indeed mean "fairy", to put it in the closest term English-speakers have for a homosexual male. It is as rude a term as is "fairy", "fag", "queer", etc. *I* wouldn't use the term, myself. I dislike it when I hear my father use it. (thankfully, not too often)


To the person who brought up homosexual priests within the Episcopal Church:
The Anglican Church has accepted homosexuality for many years, now. Therefore, why would you expect a congregation to try to "get rid of" a homosexual priest? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

that was i who inquired and thanks for responding.

the article i quoted said the term literaly means "little bird".

some modern etymologists theorize this was the origin of the "fggt" word as pertaining to homosexuals.

i was curious if Partridge's offered an opinion on this as i do not own a copy.

In case you do not know it, faggoting of embroidery (or fancy ironwork) is the same as the fancy repetative medieval scalloping designs. Like what you found on nobles' tents... or their garment sleeves and edges and hems... or women's head veils' edges... ect. Not unlike modern "eyelet lace". It's scalloping of a fabric edge that is serge-sewn for a fancy (stiffer) edging.

I'd always heard it that the modern term faggot meaning homosexual male was from the Old English/Saxon word for "stick", which, in middle and modern English also became the word for "cigarette-stick" or "ciagrette", and that the paralell was due to the... um... nature of the male member.
