CG & Jedi: What you guys are alluding to is simply my understanding of the phrase "poor in spirit". Compry, my difference is that I do not necessarily equate it with being "dependent on God", but simply a state of being that suggests humility. A millionaire can be poor in spirit despite being sorrounded by the trappings of wealth, so I do not see it as an indication of physical or material state either.

Isn't that though a condition of being human? in every way aren't we dependent on God? Although I didn't say those exact words but isn't that already understood. Afterall one of the reasons that many rich do not humble themselves is because they live under the false assumption of total independence so therefore they donot feel that they need to look up to God. The millionare you refer to is he dependent on God or is he just doing God a favor by worshipping Him?

Me too, sort of... I always thought he meant here people with low self esteem. People who had no faith in themselves, but allowed themselves to be totally guided by their faith in him.

So, the verse has nothing at all to do with "The Joys of Poverty."

Sister the History of the Christian Thirst for blood, a little of which I just pointed out above in reply to your question, is surely not the entire history of Man nor the sole history of Human construct on religion and god.

Christianity is only in its Third Millennium. Forty thousand years ago Aboriginal Man were worshipping Something(s), or some Ones, I am pretty sure there were fights then, but like I pointed out more wars have been fought in modern times, for and about the various Judeo-Christian religions and doctrines.

It's not weird at all. It is anthropomorphism at work as the meme of language evolves over the generations of mankind.

It does not impress you that James Randi has been offering a huge reward for anyone who can do ANY magic for a quarter century, and no one has claimed it? If just one of those Egyptian priests would come and throw down his staff, and it turns into a serpent, then I would believe.

The promise was to "heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons." If believers were to go into the hospitals and HEAL THEM. I would believe. If believers went into the battlegrounds and HEALED the dead. I would believe. Or if the believers went into the mental hospitals, and CAST OUT those naughty demons that possess the minds of the mentally ill, then I would believe.
