At the urging of loops and 1st time girl...(who have already read all of this!)...i'm going to start posting my very long trip report...it's 14 parts in all...and i'll try my hand at putting a few pictures into it...(it was originally posted on another board...thus, the references to "boardies" and "board meetings" while i was there.) ENJOY...
Part One
Getting to Negril was a little like giving birth….
Waking up in the middle of the night with the sudden realization that this was the day! Full of almost unbearable expectation.
Then…the longest of days followed…hours of waiting for things to happen –
The taxi to arrive….the airport security lines to move forward…the weather to improve so we could leave….the delayed planes to finally fly….our baggage to appear on the carousel (it never did!)
Frustration mixed with anticipation…and, like giving birth….the sweet reward at the end of it all….made the “pain” all worthwhile!
First impressions…
It’s HOT here! That heat hits you as soon as you get off the plane….what a lovely assault!
The few trips to the tanning booth didn’t do much…everyone else is tanned dark…or born that way! (when I got back…I thought…wow…everyone is so white here in the winter!) COLOUR SHOCK! Going and coming!
We go to catch the bus to Negril…decline the first offers of ganja…politely telling him that we really can’t handle the “BEST STUFF” in Jamaica…”do you have any worst stuff?” smiles all around!
Surprise! Here comes Jeffmon & Vickie…the first of many boardies we are finally meeting! Getting on the same bus….magic! My smile is getting bigger by the minute.
Great vistas along the road…narrow roads thru crowded towns and all those cows walking along everywhere they please. Whose cows are those? No fences? Makes sense to me….they look free.
Oh…Jamaica is filled with mountains! I forgot that….it’s hilly and lush and dense with amazing green foliage everywhere.
Pit stop…first taste of Ting! Not bad…fizzy grapefruit juice.
So much for leaving home at an ungodly early hour to gain an extra full afternoon in negril…delayed leaving…re-routed to Charlotte…thunderstorm delays flights…bags went to Philly…arrive 4 hours late in Mobay with no luggage (we did carry on a days supplies)! We arrive at Rockhouse just as the sun is setting…sort of see it thru the trees as we’re checking in…sigh…
Love the villa…can’t wait for morning’s first light to see where we are better. Nothing to unpack…go for supper at Rockhouse…lobster fusilli for me…jerk chicken for Alan…dirty bananas for both of us…happy hour – 2 for1…both more than happy with the food and atmosphere.
We’re here! We gave birth to our dreams…tomorrow we wake up to start the adventure…..
To be continued…
