Re: Trip Report - Negril Gardens April 12-19, 2003
Simpson - we should hook up before I move - or I am serious - you can come up for our open house! Road trip!
P.S. My new inlaws live in Portage.
P.P.S. Didn't answer your question...it was great getting married on the beach. Never thought that I would really like it - but it was nice to be able to have all of the people that we had met at the resort be able join us - plus all of the people jsut walking by. (Our video shows tons of people that I don't remember even being there! Bet there were 20 people standing out on the beach!) So if anyone else is getting married at a resort- I would for sure wait a few days before doing it. That way you will be able to meet and hang out with the staff and the people staying there too!

Yuck they say! They were just getting used to the girls at the resort going topless! We also cross the path of a parasail boat dragging his lines right in front of us and we have to slow down – they don’t make any attempt to speed up – so there is Mophead standing on the bow of his boat – yelling at this guy in Patois. It is quite a lively conversation going back and forth – and I don’t catch even one word of it – but love the rhythm and the tone! As the sail’s lines finally pass by – Mophead turns back to us and smiles – almost seemed like the entire “argument” in Patois was just a show for us! After Hedo, Mophead headed his boat directly for Booby Caye where he parked the boat so we could explore and go swimming. We saw urchins, starfish and sea cucumbers as well as tons of fish. I would have loved to spend more time there – maybe next time! Somehow Be-Rad slipped and cut his toe on the coral. Back at the boat, first mate took some rubbing alcohol and administered a little first aid (not the kind that was in Mophead’s “First Aid Box” for those that have seen this special box!) Can’t imagine that rubbing alcohol on an open cut felt that great – but Be-Rad took it like a man – and actually mentioned later that the alcohol did the trick. It didn’t hurt at all later like most coral scrapes do! Mophead got us all loaded back on and we were off to start the snorkeling portion of our trip. One by one we are fitted with equipment and jump in the water. Somehow I am one of the last ones in, I was sitting on the edge, about to jump in when Mophead yells at me to stop. I look around to see what might be the problem – thinking how could I have possibly done something wrong already? It seems that someone in the water is having trouble with their mask fitting correctly. He grabs mine off of my head, grabs the one from over the other side of the boat and slaps it on me before I can say a word – and tells me to jump on in. Not sensing I had much choice in the matter, in the water I go, knowing darn well that the snorkel/mask he had put on me had just come right out of someone’s else mouth! Oh well, took a half second to rinse it off and I was off to catch up with everyone else. We had a great time snorkeling, we immediately saw several barracudas – not huge, but big enough for us to keep our distance. Seems like every time we had the camera we didn’t see anything, and every time we didn’t have it, there was something good to shoot. I was going to buy a few water cameras – but there are only so many pictures that you can take underwater and they all end up looking pretty much the same! I am pretty sure that I did get a few pictures of some very small barracuda on our way back to the boat. Amy and I hung around together and saw the anchor and the canon – while the boys saw a nice sized eagle ray. I tried to mostly float quietly on the top of the water and just take in everything beneath me. I just love the water and the world under the waves – it was so peaceful just floating with the waves! I keep looking up to see what was going on back at the boat and it finally seemed that most people were heading back that way. The kids had a great first ocean snorkeling experience - you know how you usually get the masks that leak and have to keep clearing them over and over? Not a single one of us had that problem!
Life seems to be very busy right now.
