I still have not got all the pics done so, I guess I can add them later. I apoligize again for being so long winded.
Sunday – April 13 – Fun Holiday
Let me first explain that my husband, Joe loves staying at Blue Cave Castle on the cliffs and was very disappointed when the Penthouse room was not available this year. I had wanted to split our stay between the beach and the cliffs and assured him that even though we couldn’t get the Castle, he would like the locations that I had picked out. So, he is going into this vacation with the memories of last year at the Castle on his mind.
We pull into the lot at Fun Holiday and I instantly look at Joe’s face and see displeasure. I proceed to the office and was greeted by Jennifer. She is very sweet and states that she has been waiting all day for our arrival. I take care of the paperwork and she informs us that we got the best room in the place. I turn to Joe and all he says is “This ain’t the Castle”. We lug all of our bags up to the room and Jennifer lets us in. Now, Joe is the kind of person that holds nothing back and speaks his mind so Jennifer already knows that he is less than pleased with FH. The room was fine. You walk in and there is a small entry way with a clothes rack. To your left there was a nice sized bathroom with plenty of towels. Just past that, there are two double beds and a dresser with TV. No complaints there. Beyond the beds there is a door that opens to a small balcony. Now here is where the complaining starts. The view from the balcony is not the sea but instead you are overlooking the pool and to your left, is the balcony of the next room.
Now, this place is great for Spring Breakers but it is not for someone who really wants his/her privacy. The pool is huge complete with a swim-up bar and there is also a large hot tub. Now, I have never seen the since of swimming in a pool when you have the whole sea there to swim in but, to each there own. And to make matters worse, the pool was full of kids. Now don’t get me wrong, I love kids but kids are one of the reasons that we need a vacation. I can see at this point that I had not made a great choice for our beach part of the vacation. Joe makes the “this sure isn’t the castle” comment a few more times and I take Jennifer to the side and explain that we may be moving the next day. The poor girl, she tries very hard to talk Joe into liking the place but it just is not happening. We chill out on the balcony with Sala for awhile and I tell Joe that we will stay here tonight and look around tomorrow for another place if he wants. The travel day is so tiring and hectic. Things may look better in the morning. We say good bye to Sala and say we will see him tomorrow when he drops off Martina and Paul.
We are both tired and hungry so we head out to find some food but first, we stop at FH’s bar. At this point, I was not totally thrilled with the view from the room and the overall apartment complex feel of the place but hey, I was in Negril so who cares. I did however want my man to be happy and I know how much “the view” means to him so I was determined to find another place to stay. Now, we get to the bar, which is really nice (Joe even likes it) and order a couple of drinks. Joe instantly starts talking with Marlene behind the bar. He has this thing where he gives everyone a hard time (all in fun). It wasn’t long before the travel stress started to wear off and we were laughing and joking with Marlene and soaking in the views around us. After a couple of drinks, we head down the beach in search of food. Now, I not only had a list of things that I wanted to do and see, people that were gonna be down the same time as us, but I also had a list of foods that I must either try or have again. So, food was a big part of our first few days on the island. I had already had my banana chips fix and now I needed my curry pork. I am a very adventurous eater and well Joe, is not! He has gotten a lot better over the years but still not super adventurous when it comes to eating. We ended up at the Bar B Barn just as it started to rain. The waitress tried to get us to move inside but we instead pulled another table up so that we had two umbrellas covering us and enjoyed the now downpour. After a couple of drinks, we really started to feel the effects of traveling all day not to mention that we were still not quite in the zone yet. So, not being in the zone and the fact that we were not only starved but also tired added to the next small announce. They were playing music, no let me rephrase that, they were playing a song. The same song. Over and over and over again. For two hours!!! We begged the waitress to change the song. Hell, Joe told her he would give her $300J if she would just play another song! She didn’t know how to take it off of repeat. Its funny, I told Joe that after hearing that same song about 100 times, that it would be permanently stuck in my head for the remainder of the trip. What was the song, you ask? I don’t have a clue. By the next day, the song was forgotten. Besides the never-ending song, our meal was awesome. I had the curry pork with peas and rice, calaloo, and fresh veggie’s (the best green beans that I have ever had). Joe had the jerk chicken with the same sides. We all but inhaled our food.
Now, we have a few drinks in us and a full belly----yep, you guessed it…bed time. We slowly walked in the water on the back to FH, listening to the sweet sounds of Jamaica promising that tomorrow would be a wonderful day. We head up to the room and wonder what time it was, neither one of us have a watch and there is no clock in the room. We switch on the TV and flip through the channels trying to find a clue as to what time it was. Well, that really didn’t matter too much because in a matter of 30 min. we were both out like a light!
Tomorrow…..early to bed…..early to rise.
