The weather is lovely. There are 3 pleasant gents in the car to chat with, the scenery is beautiful. We discuss where we've been in Jamaica, and where we'd like to see next. They tell me I'm Jamaican because it's my 5th trip , and I've been around the island a bit.
The driver is able to find TB, no problem. We find Billy's Bay by reading signs till my memmory kicks in. The rains have been hard on the roads.
We arrive at Irie Rest and I'm greated by with a beautiful smile and warm hug from Pauline. I buy my traveling companions a cold drink for the road. One of the guys immediately tries to chat up Pauline (she is beautiful).
Lennie is not around. The guys carry my luggage up to room 5 (the same room I had last year). There are fresh flowers & a basket of fresh fruit in my room. There is a "Welcome JD" sign on my pillow. I feel I've come home. The guys leave. I get settled in my room.
I hang on the porch & have a cold stripe. I stroll to the cook shop around the conner for some fried chicken for lunch. The woman remmembers me. She asked "what did you do to your hair?". (last trip I had short curly hair. My hair is now twisted to start locks with extension)
I have itchy feet. I decide to head in to Black River to do laundry. Pauline trys to persuade me to wait & have Lennie drive me. But, I feel like going now ,so I do. I trudge up the road with 2 bags of laundry to catch the route taxi.another. I say hello to Mr & Mrs Ebanks (they own / run "skips" , next door to Irie Rest. I see a few familar faces on the way.I'm suprised at how many peopke remmember me. The taxis are crowded, a little girls sits on my lap. I enjoy chatting with people.
I find the laundry in Black River & put a couple of washes in the washer. I can't stand to sit there , so I stroll around Black River a bit. I play lotto (so I may not have to go home )
I sit in a little bakery and eat a piece sweet potatoe pudding. A gentlemen approaches and ask "do you live in Southfield"? I'm very flatered (I finally have some color).
I go to finish my laundry. The woman working has been replaced by a high scool girl. This girls parents must be so proud ! She is a very pretty , polite young lady. And I tell her so.
I grab a route taxi back to TB . This driver will take me all the way to Billy's Bay (I had to change taxi's enroute). He has to pick up some Rasta Men at a field in Great Bay first. I get a peak at Great Bay. We chat a bit. I giggle about the guy who asked if I live in South Field. The driver ("Indian") says "you look like one of our girls". I'm getting big headed now .
I get back to Irie Rest. I hear Lennies voice say "Is that JD". he trys to hug me . I say I'm all sweaty. He says that's ok, and hugs me anyway.
I go shower for dinner ( I never miss a meal in Jamaica )
