((((Dollybaby)))) you did great and I really love your writing style. [Gives DB a 'best trip report of the century' award]
Absolutely fantastic and better than any romance story I read in my younger days.
LibbyT, get me a babysitter we going clubbing when I get there in October - it's been a long time since I did that over there
I love this Jamaican tale. You may not have writing experience but you do have writing talent and a lot of it. You took a chance with Paul, so why not take another chance? Write! Maybe it will line your pockets and give you more opportunities to go back to your love.

You need to change your profession to writing. I have not laughed so hard in long-time. It made me recall my first trip 17 years ago. Dem romantic Jamaican guys dem all over di Island. "That's why God made Jamaica" I heard that somewhere on this board. Cool Runnings to you "STELLA" Sounds like you all left your responsibilty hats at home and let yourselves be FREE again. Isn't life IRIE?
dollbaby, this is one of the best trip reports i have read in a LONG time.
you so clearly reminded me of the Jamaican men who will so ask you for sex and act as if you "belong" to them when all you did was smile and say hello.
and then there are ones like you Paul who can make you believe in love at first sight *sigh*
on my first trip to Jamaica, i was told by an older, very kind Rasta on the beach that i was going to marry a Rasta, a REAL Rasta. so of course, since that day i have been LOOKING. i still havent found him but i know i will
I've been avoiding my Paul since about day 2 of writing this trip report. I finally called him last night because I knew I had to tell him eventually that I wrote our story. I hoped he wasn't mad and he wasn't. He did say, you shouldn't write those things baby because that stuff really tugs at people's hearts. From your responses I guess he was right.
i know everyone has said this already but i just want to tell you that it sure is a great report...well my very first trip was in December and stayed for 13 days...went nearly every where but didn't have much hotel experiences or club experiences since I was there to meet my BF's family...
Planning to go back there one day...
BTW DB, i sorta consolidated your report and printed out..cuz i've got a really kool friend and she loves reading these sorta reports....till now she couldn't go to JA just yet but i'm sure she will one day....
Much love,
K.

Dollybaby,
You really do spin a great tale. On an editing note - is Olivia's real name Maria or were there more than one drunk chick in your hotel room?
You story frightened me more than anything. I was frightened by the chances you and your friends took while in Ochi and I was also frightened that you put such intimate details in writing. It is amazing that this post went this far with all encouragmeent and no criticism. But you're almost 30 so I guess there's no need to bombard you with the warnings I would be giving a 22 year old right now.
There is always the danger that Jamaicans will get stereotyped as well as the danger that female tourists to Jamaica will get stereotyped so I wish you all the best and hope that Jamaica is good to you and you are good to Jamaica. Enjoy your next trip!
I appreciate your opinions Tigrrr and certainly understand why you may feel the way you do. I guess I'm confused however on how a Jamaican and female tourist could be perceived as stereotypical from this story. Cannot the two be together and find love without it being a "stereotype"? Again, thanks for your comments Tigrrr.
I wanted to read your entire report before I responed. It reminded me of the my first days on the board (before) I went to negril. Marilyn, Queenb, Angieb, and a host of others posted the
most exciting and detailed reports. You LOL, cried, felt their joy and excitement and pain. Reports that made you feel as if you were right there with them, all the way! THAT IS WHAT YOUR REPORT DID TO ME !!! I felt you girl.
The only difference is ,"now" I've been to Negrl 3 time in the past year, wellll, it will be "4" when I return in June 11-22.
Your report was, much needed. when you're a junkie for JA a good fix sure does make you feel
Bigg up to ya girl.
To the rest of you out there.
I'm still here, reading and looking for all the gooooood stuff.
bring it on!! Missing the board I was introduced to.

Dollybaby,
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed your story immensely. I didn't mean to poopie on your wonderful thread. What happened on your vacation was a very real experience that you appear to have enjoyed immensely. You told the story so vividly that I was honestly there with you on several of your dates.
My first visits to the Caribbean preceded "Stella" and I had a wonderful innocent time. After reading that book, I was so afraid that American and UK tourists would be stereotyped as easy prey to a slick line of flattery and in many cases that became the case. Especially women of girth (in your story Olivia was getting the most play. I'll PM you a link to an humorous but unflattering fictional story of female tourists). The last few times I visited Jamaica it had gotten downright ridiculous and what used to be innocent fun had become a profitable segment of the tourist trade.
When I became a poster on Ja.com I learned that many of the people here who are of Jamaican descent, had tired of the ganja and gigaho stereotypes because so little was mentioned of the other beauties and splendor of the island.
That's all I meant by my comments about the dangers of stereotyping. You told your story well, so don't worry about it. Hopefully people who have never been to Jamaica will visit the different fora and read about the unbelievably sweet mangoes sold by an equally sweet elderly Jamaican woman, the sensation of the cold water meeting the warm water at Dunn's River Falls, a wonderful ackee breakfast at one of Queenb's favorite spots in Negril, some wisdom received from a really profound deep thinking Rastaman, catching a live Reggae performance by a local band or DJ at a dead end party. Ya know, stuff like that. As you keep going back, the layers of Jamaica will continue to unfold for you and your love will grow deeper (not just for Paul, but for the island). Keep writing - your public awaits you.
