Re: Pelican Bar
I went on the way back from a boat trip to the black river. It is lovely out there on the reef / sand bar. It is explained a little bit on TB.net (I post there as Marie)
I wish I could figure out how to post the photo. My digital camera & computer don't get along with me or the card reader that I bought )

Re: Pelican Bar
Boat trips to Pelican bar are easily arranged. If you're staying at a guest house i'm sure they can hook you up with a fisherman that does boat trips. We used Michael Buchanon (Lennie @ Irie Rest brother).
If you're not staying at a guest house , just walk down to where the boats are on the beaches.

Re: Pelican Bar
Keyword search 'treasure beach' on google and find VIRTUALTOURIST with pix of tb to Pelican Bar (tho labeled as a 'sandspit) to Black River.
Private boat rentals take you further up river than pontoon boats can go. From tb costs vary, depending on how long you up river;figure us$35-40pp and up. All the headmen at the various villas have their favorite boatmenur guests like JOSEPH -- but there are many to choose from.
Stop at Riverside Dock in Black River --just moor alongside -- for some good Chinese to go as well. The ginger duck, spring rolls with aloo/curry chicken, even the Jamaican style snapper with okra are some of the best on island...

Re: Pelican Bar
Did I forget your dessert,Liz? OK, before you head back to tb from black river, boat up to
CULLODEN CAFE and moor at the beach bar. Ann makes great fresh fruit sorbets, lime pound cake
and tia maria chocolate cake -- plus wet Jamaican chocolate truffles, wrapped in moist banana leaves and tied up like boyo/duckanoo.
Just the sweet for the trip back -- and you can lick the leaves, too. You soon be there.Nyam good. New pages just up on tb.net on THE BUCCANEER as well, Liz -- plus, new LOWER pricing.

Tiv, you're evil with a capital E
We'll try to get to the Buccaneer when we are in TB to check it out...a little costly for two (plus we only have 3 days, not a week) but for next time, if we have 8 people, it looks great!

Re: Pelican Bar
Check out Mar Blue as well as Cacaona -- over in the Olde Wharfe area, near enuf to Fisherman's and Wild Onion. Mar Blue has a German Continental-trained chef (one of owners) in residence when he on island and a clean Euro-style,nightly rates, probably negotiable. If you pining for greens, see also if you can find someone to harvest some mountain watercress for you -- fresh, green, but not peppery like Stateside product;just make sure it from clean-flowing stream.
