OK, here goes....
Let's start from the beginning.
Back in August, my good friend Dolly called me up out of nowhere with this crazy idea we should jump on a plane, leave all our worries behind and visit the beautiful island of Jamaica. At first I wasn't sure of the whole idea, but it didn't take me long to agree. We got together booked our flights, and counted down the days until we left.
We are both pretty adventurous and love to travel and try new things and see new places and enjoy life to the fullest.
We've had our share of troubles through our lives, had some pretty rough times, and felt we needed to get away.
All of our friends thought we were crazy, but we both knew everyone would love the opportunity to get away to paradise. We mentioned it to another friend, Olivia, who was absolutely thrilled at the idea of going, purchased a ticket and joined us in the excitement.
So here we were 3 ladies on their way to beautiful Jamaica, not knowing what we were getting ourselves into.
Dolly and I left our signifigant others at home, and flew into Montego Bay on a Monday evening, Olivia arrived the day before and had spent one night there, getting aquinted with the locals.
Dolly and I arrived in Montego bay in the afternoon on Monday, I can recall the exact moment when I knew I was in paradise. The plane was decending over the ocean, and then the lucious land came into view, we touched the ground and I could feel my heart pounding. I was so anxious to get off that plane. We walked off the plane and I could feel the warm sun on my face and that was it...I can only descibe the feeling as loosing myself..Dolly and I have discussed this feeling many times....and she told me that after going back there a second time it was the same. It's a feeling where you almost loose yourself, (and eventually your mind!)
We are not sure if there is something in the air, in the warmth on your body, the absolute beauty of the island, or all of this combined, but there is something that happens to a person as soon as they arrive in Jamaica. Something amazing!
Well anyways, we got into the airport, and like Dolly had said, we were approached by a young man who asked me if my name was Danielle, I must admit I was pretty shocked and looked at Dolly like she should know why this person in Jamaiaca would know me, she looked at me with a strange look. we could not believe we were "known" there already..who told this man we were coming??
It turned out Olivia told him to look out for us, and described what we looked like, she must have done a pretty good job, because he found us pretty quick. We felt pretty special being "known" and went to meet up with Olivia.
We proceeded to get onto our bus to get to our hotel in Ocho Rios, and started discussing everything we wanted to do, and listened to Olivia's experiences in Montego Bay the previous night. She was already having a great time and was telling us she loved it here already.
The bus ride took us on a long narrow winding road, where we passed through different areas, and stopped dropping passengers off at various resorts. It was so beautiful and warm, the sun was shining and we were just enjoying it all.
Finally we came to our hotel, we unloaded all our bags and checked in, we were so anxious just to do everything.
We got some drinks, talked to some people, found out what to do on Mondays and just wanted to jump into the ocean, so we did. After enjoying some time on the beach and having a few drinks, we decided to go back to our room and get ready for dinner and some fun in the evening.
Now I know Dolly told you there were 3 of us in the room, sharing the shower, mirror, blowdryer to get ready to go out, so it was a big ordeal getting ready. Olivia was our hairstylist and we love her for it, we would take turns getting our hair done, and it was fun just taking our time, because we all had no cares in the world for one whole week! We went out for dinner, and decided to venture out to the club in the hotel, it wasn't all that exciting on a Monday night, but we made the best of it and still had fun.
We didn't get into any trouble our first night in Jamaica, besides olly had read the whole book on Jamaica and warned us all of all the "dangers" we could get into, we would never even consider doing anything out tf the ordinary..it's funny we had actually talked about not leaving the resort and staying out of "trouble", of course that didn't last very long!
Tuesday, we woke up, hit the gym, and then laid out on the beach, we had to work on our tan, since there was snow back home we all wanted to come back nice and brown to show off to all of our friends we had been away!
We talked again to some of the staff and wanted to find out where to go tonight, we found out Margaritaville was having a bus take the hotel guests there, so we decided to go. We left the resort at about 10 pm. and were greeted at the gate with some drinks. We walked along the boardwalk and were approached by a few guys standing around. Rasta man with no teeth found Dolly and was chatting with her by the water, and Olivia was looking like she was pretty deep in conversation with some guy as well. One in particular decided to attach himself to me telling me he wanted to take me to the moon...yeah right...I was polite and tried brushing him off, but he really wouldn't leave, (apparantly I am too nice to these guys) I excused myself, and pryed "Kevin" off of me, he said he would wait for me, I just nodded and left.
"This is just what the book warned us about" Dolly was saying. I could only laugh it off and said she was right.
We entered the club. Kevin walked me right to the door and told me he would wait for me until I came out, he said something about not having any money to come in..if he thought I would pay for him, he was sadly mistaken..I don't think so!
It was pretty slow in the club, so we all walked around and got some drinks and just sat by the ocean and took in all the beauty. Olivia was walking by the ocean with some guy and was looking pretty comfortable. Rasta man managed to get in and found Dolly and continued to talk to her. Keving kept calling me from outside on the boardwalk, and all I wanted to do was forget about him.
A few more people came into the club, and it filled up a bit more, so we decided to dance a bit. While we were on the dance floor, Keving was calling me from the door, I finally walked up to him and he gave me a rose. Now this was not just a rose, it was hand-made by Kevin. Yep, just for me, out of a napkin, yep you read right, a napkin. He said something about me being beautiful and wanting to "get to know me better" or something. I thanked him for it, and walked away, back into the club. I showed my gift to the girls and we got a good laugh..oh well...I continued to dance and have some more drinks and every so often I could hear Kevin calling my name..now why did I tell him my name?
Now I was getting a bit annoyed. I didn't want anything to do with this guy, and he was continuing to bother me. He hung around all night calling me. One of his friends that were with him came into the club and started raisin his voice to me about disrespecting his friend. I just told him I wasn't interested. He wanted us to buy ganja, and to get rid of him we did.
During the time we are at the club we meet an American who shares his stories of Jamaica with us, and tells us not to let the locals bother us, he asks us to join him back at the hotel, HE will show us around the island and take us anywhere and everywhere...yeah right!!! Like we are going to fall for that line!! This American is really beginning to get annoying too, so we want to avaid him as well, we go and dance again, all the while Olivia is on the beach with her friend. We go and check on her to see if she is "O.K" She is.
By thhis time we just want to go home, with the rasta man continually talking to Dolly, Keb=vin calling out to me, and the American trying to convince us to come and tour the island with us, we've had enough. We decide it's time to go.
How will we get home though? The bus has apparantly left..we all begin to panic, me especailly, since my friend Kevin has turned into some persistant crazy guy who WILL not leave me alone. I try to leave the club and he grabs my arm, I say I am leaving and he follows me. The American says we can catch a ride with him, but he seems really weird. I don't like him. He holds my hand saying how he just wants to spend time with someone "white and beautiful" what kind of line is that? He says he doesn't want sex, just the pleasure of my company. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!! The employee Olivia has been talking to all night offers to give us a ride back to our resort, Dolly and I are hesitant, but decide that is the only way we are going to get back, and get into his car. We are both uneasy and sit by the door with our hand on the latch, thinking if things get bad, we'll jump out of the car. I am hoping and praying this guy will take us home to our hotel. As we get into his car, the American, Kevin and his friend jump inot the cab parked beside our car. We leave and they follow. OK, now I am getting freaked out. I am vowing never to leave the resort if we make it back there safe..just please let us get back there safe. We drive off, they follow, and try cutting us off, I have to admit, I was pretty worried and anxious. When we approach the property, they cannot come on through security..thank GOD. We made it! When we get out of the car, the guy does tell us to not be so "nice" to the men here, we nod in agreement and decide to play it safer next time..if there is a next time. We go up to our room and fall asleep, not knowing what will happen tomorrow...
