I was reading in the Boston Globe today that some Cape Cod businesses are in danger of shutting down because they can't get the seasonal help they've been counting on for the last ten years. A lot of them are going to petition the government to take action and do something about the cap on H2B(?) visas.

It's difficult to get local people to take the seasonal jobs because they already have year round work. The pay is low and no one can afford to rent in the tourist areas for a season on the little money they make.

Has been very slow for the locals this year.
Visa's have been very limited, i too pray that something gives.
We really need some kind of industry in the area,other than fishing to keep them going. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Some of the friends i mentioned in Great Bay are men [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] and yes they can cook.

Linchoy:Got my date wrong -- the art exhibition/sale opens NEXT Friday/April 9th at Jake's in TB -- and a bit different I hear from Shirley's display booth at CLF last year.

You be happy to know that for this CLF weekend, most everyplace in town is already long-ago booked.

About male chefs on island, you exactly right in terms of general public recognition. But then, you know that women on island do more, but often say less about it, or at least take or get less of the credit in public. But if you start ticking off the names of 'famous' Jamaican chefs, not those at hotels but those who run their own restaurants and re-invent Jamaica cooking , both Winsome Reid and Norma will surely top the list, nahso?
