I will be in Mobay July 15-26 and we are definately going to Sumfest. I can't believe that I am going to miss that much work, but you only live once, and I intend to enjoy myself.

There are other clubs in that area. The Brewery is a good spot, Club Platinum was always a good after hours place, but I think that they are still closed down. Pier 1 is not too far either. They have a lot of different artists there, and it is always a fun spot.

Reading your report...I'm remembering your face! The few pics you originally posted with the report..I can remember what you look like..funny huh? But you are a gem...this comment killed me..

I glance up to look at Vincent. I think he’s looking at me. I smile, he winks, nod, and we travel on. What a moment. What a day. I close my eyes to give thanks to Jah for what I have and to ask that He sustain the little flickers of lights.

OH...I felt a tear with that last statement. That alone keeps me going back to Jamaica.
And Yes Negril and Ochi people...you CAN have a wonderful experience in MoBay! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
I have been on that Margaritaville rooftop...and listened to a one man band that was 10 times more entertaining than the teeny boppers downstairs. (mind you I'm only 30.. )

If I can say that all of what we have been going through with this BTS has been worth it because it looks like the impossible is happening......gone with the wind is better this time that the original.

It's a rare opportunity to add things you left out and the pictures so far are the bomb.

Maybe it will get properly archived this time.

(((Seveen))) Hey girl! I’m adding a lot more pictures this time. Now that I got the hang of the image thing, I can’t stop. Only wish I had taken more of the cliff divers. I’m glad you are enjoying them.

Hello (((Dr. Bones))) yes lawddemercee…dem men fine nuh. I repeat, I wished I had taken more shots of them. I think I was afraid of my camera getting wet from the rain. Won’t make that mistake this coming trip. I’m taking a couple of the underwater cameras.

I see we will be in MoBay at the same time. It would be nice to get together for a drink and a chat.

Oh and (((PastLifeJ))) the photo in the post is of Adrienne. There are no pictures of me in this report because I am extremely camera shy. So glad you are enjoying those sentimental moments. Those are what I remember most.

Yes those cliff divers are something else. I saw some tight ends, massive chests and thick arms. It was amazing. The other thing I noticed is that their skin was so smooth nary a scar.

One of the cliff divers was in Alfred's one evening and I must admit I had the wonderful opportunity to feel all those muscles. Priceless. I think his face got beet red. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Only 15 minutes passed before Adrienne returns. She asked if I wanted to go on a private tour. On her way to the Internet room, she met 2 girls who had hired a driver to take them around MoBay for a couple of hours and wanted others to go with them…to share the fare! I was a little hesitant, I mean suppose our personalities don’t mesh. Oh well, since Adrienne was so excited about it all, I gathered up my stuff and go to meet our tour buddies. Karen and Brenda from Los Angeles. According to them, the driver told them, $30 for 2 hours – up to 4 people. They thought the $30 would be divided among 4 people. To me that sounded a little too good to be true, but what the heck, you never know. He would be by to pick us up at 2:00. That gave us approximately 10 minutes to get ready to go out again. I was tired, but couldn’t pass up a two-hour tour for $7.50US. (The price is still hard to believe…) We ran to the little girl’s room and then went out front to wait for our driver. He arrives at exactly 2pm.

He told us to call him Uncle Dave. He was in his late 50’s, but very spry. He told us he would stop anywhere to allow us to take pictures and ask questions.

Our first stop was a tiny shopping area not far from the Sunset. I didn’t know we would be stopping to shop, so I didn’t bring extra cash. I decided to stay on the van. Adrienne and Brenda stayed also. Uncle Dave looked disappointed that we didn’t go. This gave us a chance to chat with Brenda.

This is not their first time to Jamaica, but they only stay at AI. Brenda came across as being a little on the “militant” side. She was concerned about the plight of the poor people here and felt that they should all rebel and strike. What!!! Girlfriend this is not Los Angeles.

I told her that it would never work. She seemed surprised that I didn’t agree with her so she proceeded to “explain” to me what she meant. I clearly understood her the first time and it is unrealistic. I told her that it seemed to me that there are a lot of folks here who are more concerned about feeding their families from day to day than trying to overthrow the government. Those who do refuse to work, or strike, will find their job taken by someone who desperately needs the money and who will pose no threat to an uprising. She said that’s what the guy at the resort told her, but she still thinks it would work if they all do it at the same time. I kept quiet because we had to ride together for the next two hours and was in no mood for a debate.

Karen and Uncle Dave returned with many bags in tow. She purchased quite a bit, which made Uncle Dave happy. We moved on to Westgate Hills. The homes here are breathtaking. Adrienne and I fantasized about owning one.

That’s my house…no that’s my house..no, that’s MY house.

The neighborhood was still developing.

Uncle Dave said that it could take up to 5 years for someone to build a house.

We continue on to another neighborhood in Mt. Salem. These homes were not like the ones at Westgate Hills. The people living in these homes were poor. I reached for my camera, but Uncle Dave said to put it away. He said we were not allowed to take pictures in this area. Brenda was the first to ask why, he said that he had special privileges to drive his bus through there, but no one was allowed to take pictures because the people living there hate tourist invading their privacy. He said it was a dangerous area and that our lives were at risk. I understood and quickly put the camera away. We saw some folks sitting at a small wooden table playing dominoes and laughing. I thought to myself that I would like to know them, but they probably didn’t feel the same about me. I couldn’t help but wonder why the heck did he bring us through there???

We left Mt. Salem and on through Mango Walk to Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill is a beautiful hotel/restaurant with an incredible view overlooking the areas we just passed through. I like this place. We were greeted by Duane, a real cutie of about 19 with a dynamite smile.

I have a wonderful picture of Adrienne and Dwayne but I really should the okay from her first before I post. Sary!

He was so polite and sweet. He hung with Adrienne and I for a while. We asked this young man a ton of questions and he patiently answered them all, with a smile. I kept thinking that I wished my niece had come with me so they could meet. He won my heart.

We ordered drinks and he brought them to us on a silver platter and carefully placed them down on a linen napkin. Oh I was so impressed. He took us on the tour of the property and after seeing the rooms, I was ready to pack up my belongings and move in. The rooms run about $70US a night and were immaculate. I may go back there to stay when I return to Jamaica.

We say our good byes and on our way. We were hungry now so Uncle Dave took us to The Pelican Café which is located on the hip strip and is pretty poplar. Adrienne was hankering for curried chicken.

Adrienne bought the curried chicken and I bought the conch chowder. I had a taste of the chicken and it was delicious. The chowder was fair.

On our way back to the Sunset, Uncle Dave took us by way of the city scenic route. Mid-day on St. James Street, this strip was full of activity.

I see nothing but wall-to-wall people, in every direction, going about their daily business. I don’t know why, but I find it fascinating. I know that sounds corny, but hey…it’s my first trip here and I am loving everything about this place. Everything, even all the commotion that resembles mid day in New York City.

After fighting traffic and dodging pedestrians, we make our way back to the Sunset. Adrienne and I handed Uncle Dave $30US plus tip. Brenda and Karen are haggling over their share. Please don’t tell me they thought all they had to pay was $7.50US for this 3 hour drive and tour; yes I said 3 hours. I thought it was shameful of them to jip this man out of $15, I’m sure he spent that much in gas alone driving us around in that comfortable, air conditioned van. I said my farewell and jetted. I had a great day so I was in no mood for the drama. For some reason Adrienne felt that she had to stick around and help them out…I guess interpret…intervene ..explain…arbitrate. WHATEVER. Just pay the man for goodness sake!!!…I’m out of here.

I went straight to my favorite bar, which is also the closest, and ordered an ice-cold strawberry daiquiri Adrienne finally appeared looking completely exasperated. She told me that the L.A. girls misunderstood and thought that we only had to pay $7.50 per person. They ended up giving him $15 a piece….NO TIP! I’m glad they are leaving tomorrow.
