Pelican Bar is awesome! I know we have seen the pictures of Pelican Bar a million times, but until you have been there you just can’t get the vibe. On approach in the boat you just shake your head with wonder of how it can still be standing. My first trip to Pelican Bar was about a year and a half ago. There was just the bar back then, now Floyd has added a sun tanning deck, and what he calls his “honeymoon suite” hee hee…..HIS honeymoon suite! No matter how many people are out there you always get a big welcome from Floyd and he remembers all his customers. He doesn’t always offer to cook, so sometimes you have to ask, he is just not a pushy guy, but that’s his business to cook fish and rice and have ice cold beer for his customers, I didn’t go away disappointed this trip either!
I was surprised how low the water was. We could actually walk out to the reef. It was a perfect day, captain Joseph took me to Pelican after stopping at Parrottee Point for a swim and a look for shells (My favorite pastime in Jamaica). Floyds family was there, lots and lots of children. Well I must have been mad but I gave my new digital camera to the kids and told them to take pictures of everything, I have pictures I could never have gotten on my own. One of the other guests walked me out to the reef and all the little boys followed, we pick up shells and beautiful bits and pieces which are all now in my garden so I can feel a little piece of Jamaica everyday here at home. Anyway as we were walking on the reef I looked over and noticed the young man standing beside me, who was very quiet and shy, (At least 6’8”) had the biggest feet I have ever seen on a human being. Well, me with my outspoken personality just blurted out “Holy **** those are the biggest feet I have ever seen!” I thought all the little boys would never stop laughing at him, he just smiled and shook his head. (I have a picture of these feet) Very sweet and very sexy guy…yummy!
One of the sweetest things that happened was one of the little boys found a beautiful little conch shell, but the conch was still in it. I said I didn’t want it because that would be unkind to kill the conch just for the shell. He said if I eat it would it be alright then? I said yes so he pulled it out and had Floyd cook it for him to eat…what a sweet child.
There is something about spending a day out at Pelican that makes you feel like family, everyone is happy to be there, friendly and relaxed. Floyd is awesome and a great cook. He welcomes everyone and is looking forward to your visit.
Look at all these beautiful faces, filled with happiness and love. (By the way I ask permission for all my pictures to be used in my reports)
