Rudemonk - Love the "girlfriend" story. I spent one evening in Alfred's with a friend who was making her first visit to Jamaica. The "pimp" was in there trying to sell his wares to some tourist. The tourist indicated he wanted us. Do you know that pimp came over looked us over and over like he thought he might be able to add us to his bag of tricks.

Yes I always feel sorry for the mampee women that believe all the conversation. I have been "almost mampee" and now I'm not so I've seen both sides of that coin. It's amazing the different reaction I get as a slim in shape woman than when I was several pounds overweight. It's like now the guys expect to be rejected so the come on is not as hard plus I usually employ a bodyguard. This way I can do what I want to do and not be dragged around to places where I do not want to go. If I have to pay - we do it my way and I don't have to "rock".

I've had old white men come up to me and ask how much my girlfriend was. Just the idea that anyone could think my friend was selling, and that I was buying her made me go apoplectic. That guy had no idea how close my foot was to crushing his jugular. My chick just fanned him off. Sometimes the only thing some people understand is action language. Alternately, I've also had men assume the sale too and try and solicit ancilliary services, like rides to the boom boom rooms and stuff like that. It makes me sad sometimes to walk anywhere with a Jamaican girl and hear the abuse that gets piled on her, from the come ons, the hey babies it's you I needs, to the assumptions when they realize it's me she's walking with. Fortunately if you are a regular people see what is going on and will take others to task on your behalf. I was waiting for two friends to come meet me for lunch and this guy walked up out of nowhere, asked me what I was doing. I made the mistake of saying i was waiting for two friends, he figured they were chicks and tells me he is going to "take one." Boy that cracked me up. He had the whole thing set up in his mind too and developed some kind of pact with me where he would take the one I didn't "want."

Thank God these two chicks were late so he got tired of waiting, then he had the sack to tell me to come find him when they did get there! I was like, are you on crack? You think I'm going to lug these two chicks all around the beach to try and find your skinny rat ***?

A good friend of mine is white and mampee so I know exactly what you're talking about Sev. Lord I am a popular guy when we go out, lol...

as to the scene which we seem to be getting into, hey to each their own. When two people make exchanges for intimacy there is obviously a need on both sides and I just have to think that most times it's not seedy and sordid although it certainly has that potential- and where there is a need there is a market. Most of the girls I know who sell are great people, they just feel like this is the only option open to them. Maybe for some of them it is. They have babies, no daddies to help take care of the kids cuz they've just been bred for the sake of machismo...Of course you get some who are just on the road to self destruction and that is horrible to see. They bleach, they are on drugs, by certain standards they have a lot of money but it all gets spent in a lifestyle that goes nowhere, they are subjected to violence...all kinds of crazy stuff. And gigolos are no different really.

I just have been really seeing a lot of the lecherous sort of tourist come through lately and I don't care for them very much. I was watching the Cool Ruler one night and this guy was like 70, popping viagras, rubbing his hand all over this one chick's *** to the point she was like, swatting him away. I know her, so I know she's like 19. But she needs the money very badly (school) so she has to put up with this chooch. In some cultures large age spreads are no big deal and in Jamaica that is certainly the case-I found that out the hard way, lol- so it's not so much the spread that bothered me about it just the way he was treating her, like she was just a piece of meat he could grope cuz he knew he had her in a spot she wasn't comfortable in, but needed his money so he could get away with it. In one night she can make a month's salary. That's a kind of pressure I don't think too many people have ever gone through. She just sort of giggled and I would have done anything to remove her from that situation if I could have thought of pulling something off that A) wouldn't have made it look like I was buying or B) not further embarassed her by recognizing her embarassment if that makes sense. Instead I just sat there and did nothing. That sucked, and it's not in my nature. She was pretty glad to see him go home at the end of the week, and the next night she didn't want anything to do with him.

It's one thing if two people engage in a transaction that is mutually beneficial and they can have fun or whatever and stuff stays cool- like I said I know a lot of girls in Negril who sell, when they think the guy is cool or whatever, they'll go out with them, and it's really sort of a glorified date with some strings attached. Some of them have regulars who come down for specific times and they hang out beyond just sex...so there are quite a few shades of grey at work. I personally think those strings can be heavy if the cards are not played right, but that's me judging another and I try not to do that.

This is tricky territory. It really needs to be seen individually and judgements reserved on the part of observers. I have seen a lot of chicks get taken advantage of in my day and lots of guys too. Jamaica and Negril can hand out **** equal opportunity, lol...people sometimes just have a reality to deal with the partner could not hope to comprehend...

Watching the Western Union office can be very enlightening.

Secondly, would love to hear responses to my two stories.

I was with my young teenage daughter in a craft market and a young boy,close to her age, selling wood carvings and called me over and instead of trying to sell me a carving, he discreetly asked me if he could give me one of those carvings for some "time" with my daughter. Strangely, he was so sweet with his request that I politely said no, but thank you for thinking she was pretty.

Another time, last year, I was in Alfreds and not my scene there or at home, but a "guy" actually seemed to be really, really mad at me because I said I wasn't interested in dancing. I was just there with a group of friends and was just standing there with them. I was kind and polite when I said no, I was just here to listen to the music, so I'm still confused over his reaction. He was really, really, really mad and we all left very quickly after that.

I DO understand that there is the tourist that goes to Jamaica for the sole purpose, but, am I that naive to believe that it is more often than not? After that incident, I felt I had no business being in Alfreds if I wasn't interested in "that".

Both of these stories have perplexed me to this day. Any ideas?

What is a mampee. A "mampee" is a woman who is heavy, sometimes very heavy, as opposed to a slim girl, coka cola bottle shape, or a maga girl. It's not to be thought of as an insulting word however as some might assume, it's almost a term of endearment. Many men seek out and prize mampees for reasons...well they have reasons that are sometimes misconstrued, and sometimes not.

As to the kid asking for "time," I doubt he meant it sexually if that is what you were wondering. But if I had a daughter she'd never leave my sight either way, lol...

And as to your experience at Alfreds I wouldn't sweat it. I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from going back there and having a good time. It was just some chooch probably gassed up on white rum. It's not like he set your hair on fire or anything, lol...that's a story for another time.

Alfred's has a door charge now, which enters you into a lottery, so a lot of the riff raff waits for the other nights to go out.

Thanks for the explanations. The incidents probably did have much simpler explanations than I originally thought. I am very fortunate to visit this great island again next week and bringing family/friends and inasmuch as I hesitated to post those questions out of sounding completely stupid, I'm glad I did as your answers put my mind at ease. We do want to visit the places on the beach with live entertainment, but just for the entertainment. Thanks again - it is really appreciated.

well for live entertainment without a lot of hassle Alfred's is certainly your best bet, as far as the beach is concerned, although I personally like Roots a little better since more of my friends can show up there and I think their band selector is a little better.

Why not feel sorry for all women who believe the untruth when it is spoken to them

Perhaps the come on is not hard because their desire is hardly for slim and in shape woman...rather they prefer mampee

Seveen, it is difficult not to take your post as an insult to the beautiful woman, full bodied and proud women that I am. I have many full size women that would put even your beautiful slim self to shame...even me. Being a victim to the lies of those we claim to love is a weakness of all of us, not just mampee. Being a victim in general while in jamaica when you are lonely and feel that the man speaking to you is for real, is also a reality as I think all of us can attest to. Jamaican men are wise and unique and their interest spans wide ranges as with all black men. Slimply said, they love mampee, they love slim, they love cute, they love average...they just love. Perhaps the difference in their approach to us is not so much our outward appearance but the vibes they get from the soul within. Think about it my sister.. this is tricky territory, certainly.

in my opinion most women are targets in a sense regardless of their shape. i mean damn there are so many freakin levels of this it's ridiculous, shape, race...everything gets played. although I am a man, I have seen firsthand the corporate mind***k perpetrated on women, and in fact used to be an author of it briefly (I worked in cosmetics as an artist) so I guess when I see it and the deep lasting effects of it it gets my back up slightly. and to this day I am confronted with new aspects of the mindjob I never thought about before, it's like, women get a raw end of the stick, and then you look at how race fits that stick, size fits that stick, you can take it anywhere, complexions within races, eye color, hair. many different levels. my own aesthetics saw the mampee hunters as strange, and I've had it explained to me a few different ways. in general I think it's kind of weird to discuss women's body shapes beyond a certain degree.

I would just be careful of motives in general. some of the reasons why mampees are desired are not exactly glorious. and i'm not trying to say these motives are possessed of all men by any means. I just mean that I tend to reject the notion that fatter women have some hidden inner beauty that just waits for the right man to see it. I guess what I am trying to say is that beauty which requires another is a false beauty no matter what your shape. the exact same thing can be said for slim girls too so nobody should take offense. I've known a lot of what most of our society here in the US would consider to be "hot" girls and they have issues like you wouldn't believe.

the truth is only you can make yourself beautiful and so long as you have understood how to do that it doesn't matter really what others think- your beauty is unassailable and that vibe that angie refers to is infectious. External beauty is just a concept. all people are different but everyone wants to be accepted for who they are and what they are.
