Negril - My first trip report 10/2 - 10/16 2004

October 2nd, 2004
Day 1
We arrived at the airport with lots of time to spare. The flight was an uneventful 4 hour 5 minutes journey with Spiderman 2 on the screen. We arrived to the glorious Jamaican sunshine beating on our faces. Our bags were one of the first to come off the plane. We cleared customs with out a hitch & they did not catch any of the good we were sneaking in. Walked out front to see Richard our driver waiting with my Red Stripe in one hand & my partners Ting in the other. Off to Negril…….

Made a quick stop at the super “S” in Lucea, then it was off to Point Village. Arrived at Point Village, stowed the gear & food. Went on a 30 minute tour of Negril, picked-up Richards Lady and then the four of us went to dinner at Ozzies. Dinner was ok.

Back to PV & into the ocean for a 2 hour star light swim

Hello 3 dives crew !!!! I have been in a funk since getting back from Jamaica... I am missing it too much !!! I am sorry that I dont have a trip report up yet. It just pains me too much.
I hope that everyone is well and I look fotward to meeting you all again !!!!!

Day 2
We hit the water at 5:30am & snorkeled for 4 hours. The reef was excellent. We took 36 pictures of the fish & the reef. We were able to catch 12 lobsters & 3 Jack fish. Back to the condo for a lunch of Jack fish, rice, Callaloo with an Appleton & OJ. Richard picked us up for some shopping at the HiLo & then off to 3Dives for Dinner to celebrate Ros’s 29th birthday with a bunch of JA.com & Negril.com members. It was a good time & the lobster was quite good. I have pictures, just no way to post them!

Day 3
I woke up @ 3:30 and sat on the balcony enjoying several coffees with rum cream, listening to those amazing tree frogs. At 5:00 I had enough java in me & decided to drag my partner kicking & screaming down to the water @ 5:30 this morning, off on another snorkeling adventure. The water was extremely warm. As we were hitting 10-15 feet of water, just out from the salt water pools at PV, there was the biggest Barracuda we have ever seen in our lives, not more than 15 feet in front of us. It was a moment that we will never forget. This fish was the size of my 13 year old, 4-5 feet long with a great big pearly smile on it. Before I could get the underwater camera out of its case, it started its way to deeper water. We spent the next 3 hours in search of our lunch. We were lucky enough to catch 6 red & silver fish; we have no idea what they are called. After our snorkel we had a home made breakfast of fried plantain, ackee & salt fish, fried dumplings & blue mountain coffee. After the dishes were done we grabbed the snorkel gear & it was back to the ocean to see if we could get some more lobster for our dinner. We were out for about 1 hour & came back to shore with 4 nice, 8-10 inch lobster tails for our dinner. My partner needed a well deserved rest on the beach, while I prepared the fish we caught earlier in an Escovich style with some rice... Yum, yum, I can still taste those hot peppers. Richard arrived just in time to share our lunch & then we were off for some more supplies. The supplies in red ground we very limited so we went into the market in Sav for our goods. I returned to the condo to prepare our lobster dinner. 6 lobster tails done in a hot curry & 4 biggies done under the broiler with garlic & butter, served with garlic scalloped potatoes & carrots. Needless to say, we thought we were in heaven! Off to bed with overfull tummies we went………………….

Woke up @ 5:30, left my partner asleep & headed to the ocean for more grubs. Today was a little rainy, although this made no difference to me, as I spend most of the day in & under the water. There were tons of fish on the reef; I was able to catch 3 jack fish, 2 sheep’s head & a 2 foot grouper. I played with 3 or 4 larger puffer fish, making them grow to the size of a beach ball. On of the workers at PV yelled out & asked me to bring “that dann fish in so he could eat it!” How you would ever dream of eating a fish with tones of spikes on it, I will never know. I laughed & let the cute little thing go, to his dismay. I came in to make breakfast for my hunny & get ready for her first trip to the black river. Richard picked us up @ 10:00 & we were off to the black river. The drive there was uneventful. Upon arriving at the black river we met up with my buddy Lloyd for Irie Tours. We sat around shot the sh@t for awhile & then off for the river tour & a crab lunch at Sisters Lou’s. We were able to see 2 rather large crocs

& a bunch of egrets. We headed back to 3dives for dinner & then off to bed, as we were a little tired.

what are you catching all of this stuff with....you said you went snorkeling and returned with dinner fit for a queen...no boat...no fishing equipment at least none that you mentioned
