here's a pic of one side of our digs...the curtains are supposed to hang straight...i just couldn't dig them so i tied them in a knot.

Wow, so that's what Fern Hill looks like. Thank you for the pics...our twentieth anniversary is coming up in 2007 and we both want a really beautiful location for our 'celebration'. Will I have a to sell one of the kids to stay there?

this is to be our last full day in Port Antonio...i thought rafting down the Rio Grande would make a nice finale to our time here. The excursion did not disappoint. As luck would have it...it was sortof an overcast day....good...i like to sun...not cook.

Bully transports us to Berredale where our adventure begins and we depart with our captain Linford.

Take off spot.



lots of rafts all along the riverbanks...very few rafters today. Linford tells us that occasionally, when a cruise ship full of people come up, there are hundreds of rafters at a time. Praising the Lord that isn't the case today.

I have yet to want to do this trip down the river... but guess your gonna force me..... .maybe even entice me.. for another time... let's see..

the river is low but navigable...it narrows in spots...and the water ripples, but Linford maneuvers the craft through the water with ease. He's been at this for 25 years. Was raised on this river. Spent three years apprenticing, hauling someone else's rafts back up the river. We enjoy his mild mannered company greatly. Chatted our way lazily down the river.



The river widens in spots too and is quite deep...water very swimmable, although on this day, I didn't dip. Along the way, are a few people, either selling beverages or doing laundry...or fishing. We only saw two other occupied rafts this day.

Linford points out tape high up on the riverbanks along the way...the tapes point out previous high water marks from another time. This raft was left high and dry...and dead.



We stopped at the famous Miss Betty's for a snack and a break...this is about the half way mark.





got a nice mortar and pestal at this craft stand in the middle of no where...

Ok now the calm part near the sand bank looks ok for me.. just not into rough waters..

god woman....what a wimp! There was NO...i repeat NO rough water! All calm and criss...i know you would love this.

Rollin....rollin....rolling down the riiiiiiiverrrrrrrrr. The trip seemed to fly by after the half way spot.
