I'm dying do go to Negril in LESS than a month. So Margaritaville was spared? Good news. Do stay at Idle A-While. We did and loved it. A thunderstorm hit the day we arrived (what else is new) and we ended up spending an hour huddled under roof of the bar, drinking, having fun. It's a neat place. The rooms are pretty spacious too.

Day 4 cont'd.

After some great conversation with our friendly servers at Selina's, we were headed toward the beach. Up the blvd to the road which led to the beach. I just love the little shops and vendors that line the road. Talked as we passed, and stopped to look at a few things. As we entered the beach we head towards town end. I tried to recall all the places I had read about that I wanted to see in real life. We went just past Beach House villas, or maybe a little past there, stopping along the way at whatever looked interesting, which to my wife usually involves beads and/or jewelery. We have quite a collection of beaded bracelets and necklaces, etc. at home.

On our way back up the beach, we could see the storm headed our way. We were trying to make M'ville, but ended up at Fun Holiday. We had a great time there, met a great lady and her grandkids from the US, who visits Negril several times a year, who gave us lots of wonderful info on Negril, and JA in general. I was jealous that she can visit as often as she does. Once the rain stopped we asked if we could see the rooms, and in no time we were happily greeted by a smiling (see a common thread here)young lady who was more than happy to show us around. A dozen or so workers were busy working on adding 2nd story rooms. If clean, affordable accomodations are what you are looking for, this place seems to fit the bill. Good beach location, and prices were good too. Finished what seemed like our umpteenth Red Stripe (they have an all day happy hour)and were on our way down the beach. We spent alot of time in the water, partially because we love the ocean, but mostly because we were having a hard time walking straight at this point. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

You hear so much about the beach vendors, I want to share this story. We had been on the beach a couple times already so we had been approached enough, and were familiar with the lines and sales pitches that we had heard some good ones, and really don't get bothered by the "salespeople". I was stopped by a few guys trying to sell me something, which is cool, and one guy said " Hey Mon, I'm from de Mountains". Now I remember him using that same sales pitch a couple days before, so I asked him (could have been the Red Stripes)- "If your from de mountains Mon, how com I see you on de beach everyday?" His friends started laughing as he tried to answer as best he could. Instead he just gave a big snile and gave a big "respect, Mon", and we were on our way. I have never had a problem with any vendor on the beach, some can be persistent, and I have bought a banana or two that i didn't need, but I've spent money on dumber stuff I'm sure.

We stopped at plenty of places along the way and can remember having a drink or two at Rondell Village, For Real, Treehouse, etc., wish I could recall thme all. We ended up at Cosmos as it started to get dark. Sunset was awesome. We shared the best Cheeseburger and fries (my wife loves cheeseburgers) as we watched the sunset there. We walked out to the road, and headed back to the resort, but stopped a cab after a short time, and had another fun cab ride back.

We talked for a few hours that night about how much the people who take the advice of misinformed travel agents who tell them not to leave the resort, really do miss. We had the best time just wandering the beach and visiting the local places. Wish I could remember all the names of people we met that day. Remember the guy who called himself Johnny B. Goode at Rondell Village beach bar, and the Rasta bracelet guy among others. Fell asleep that night(or passed out, not sure)tired from another fun day in Negril.

I have never had a problem with any vendor on the beach, some can be persistent, and I have bought a banana or two that i didn't need, but I've spent money on dumber stuff I'm sure.

Amen...when I think of all the crap I've bought here in the U.S. that I really didn't need...I buy an anklet..say my "respect brudda or seestah" and walk away smiling.
