Irie Rest is really not that basic (the rooms & verandas are screened and they have ac). I've stayed in more basic places (no screens or ac).

I agree with QK, Calabash House looks great.

Hikaru (Billy's Bay) is beautiful and has a pool.

Blue Marlin (Great Bay) looks fabulous and is on the best beach in the area.

JD, That's good to know about Irie Rest. I like the look of it from the pictures and it seems like a relaxing spot.

i stayed at Irie Rest and had food issues - there was very little and the guest house is not near a lot of restaurants - you have to drive to one

spoke to some people that stayed there since me and they had food issues also

rooms are clean and the verandah is nice

the beach is very nice - downhill walk to the beach - and of course UPHILL coming back

i was scheduled to stay 3 nights and stayed 2 nights - 'cause i was starving - and i was paying extra for food

Junction and Black River are the major food shopping towns for TB -- each a half hour's drive in opposite directions -- with, aside from fish/seafood, supplies real scanty in area. 'Donkey Ladies' like Berenice with fresh fruit/veg in baskets panoplied on donkey or mule back and the Friday provision man who drives in also offer supplies, at higher price, since they make the trek. Few restaurants (Jack Sprat, Tiffany's, South Jammin, soup/jerk spots on specific days like M&D Grocery and breakfast/lunch at Heart of Love Bakery). Jake's is best for drinks. There's a halal/Muslim version of 'kosher' restaurant on the Parrottee Point road just outside Black River and quite good fish at Riverside Dock in Black River. The new harbourside market in Whitehouse is well worth stopping at en route to TB as is the new OLIVER'S restaurant at Oasis Spa in Belmont/Bluefields Bay. If you're staying at a villa, your cook will take care of all food/drink shopping and lardering in for you. If you stay at MAR BLUE in Old Wharf, you'll get the very best food in town, let alone on the coast.

There is a great likkle cook shop just around the conner from Irie Rest that has great food CHEAP.

There is also a new cook shop in Great Bay on the main. The food is fabulous, the portions are plentiful and it is CHEAP. Mostly locals eat here. The lady who cooks is a friend of mine (Rena).

Yep. that place saved my life! Good food and very pleasant owner. She is closed on Sunday and that was the day i was hungry hungry - almost invited myself to Sunday dinner at her house [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
