This is my first time posting here but I recently returned from a trip to Jamaica (5 years since my last one – much too long!) with my wife, Ellen, and thought I’d post some pics here. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them…
Day 1 – Our first day was spent in Kingston, staying at the Indies – a small ‘boutique’ type hotel on the corner of Holborn and Dumfries Roads. This is sort of a homecoming for me since I grew up on Dumfries Road and spent a lot of time with my late father at the Indies. I’m happy to say they still serve the best pizza on the island.

Using the Indies as our base, we set out to do some walking around New Kingston. After showing my wife the office building that now stands where our house used to be, we head over to Emancipation Park which is new to both of us. I’m impressed, finding it well laid out and a pleasant oasis in the middle of Kingston’s hustle and bustle.

From there, our walk takes us to Devon House – another familiar place from childhood. We take a tour of the house (for Ellen’s sake) and later have lunch at the Grog Shoppe. Sadly, I miss my chance to have some Devon House I Scream.

We stop briefly at my alma mater (Priory) and I’m surprised to see that the students all wear uniforms now since they didn’t in my day. From Priory it’s on to Jamaica House where we engage in a friendly conversation with the two cops guarding the front gate. The older one seems delighted that I’ve taken my wife here to show her my ‘hometown’ and after sharing a few jokes about P.J., he gets his young partner to pose for a pic.

The Bob Marley Museum is the last stop on our walk. I’ve never been here before so it’s new for me as well as for Ellen. Couldn’t take any pictures inside, so the only shot I got was of the statue out front. This is the first time we see any tourists (not surprising) and most of them appear to be Japanese.

After the walk, there are a couple more stops to make before heading out of Kingston. Sadly, I find that my old prep school (Suthermere) has seen better days and truly looks like a mess. We also drive up to Aylsham so I can show Ellen where we lived before my family left Jamaica. I’m happy to see that this old neighborhood is still in decent shape and some things don’t change too much.

Well, that was our one day in Kingston and then we headed off to Strawberry Hill, a spa in the Blue Mountains. We got there in the evening and were greeted by an awesome view from our cottage as the sun set over Kingston.

That sunset marked the end of our first day and we couldn’t have asked for a better start to our trip. With Kingston behind us, it was time to explore the Blue Mountains before moving on to Negril but that’s for later.
I’ll end with Day 1 for now - mostly to make sure I'm doing this right. If there’s any interest, I’ll continue with days 2-6 since there are lots more pictures and even more beautiful scenery.
By the way, a larger gallery from this trip is on Image Station and I believe you can access the full size pics there if you're interested.
