Mayfield Falls has been on my "to do" list for quite some time now. Finally can say we went and according to the kids, we will return.

We arrived later in the afternoon. I lose all track of time while in Jamaica (a concious effort on my part). I want to say it was about 3 pm? It was a rough but beautiful drive through the "bush" as my friends called it.

Welcome to Mayfield Falls.

Left to right, suzrand, J., little suzrand, Junior, Jm., and Junie. My friend Junie has been wanting to go to Mayfield for quite a while now and every trip we say we will go. Junie wasn't too interested in getting wet, she just wanted to watch. Not sure how she managed in a skirt though?

Richard was a wonderful guide. He took care of the camera and took all the photos. He was also really good at helping me with J. who isn't a great swimmer. Junior and Richard made many comments on how low the water was. I think that made it quite a bit easier on me with the three kids along. There were very few spots over the kids heads (or at least we dodged those spots). It was not very strenuous for me or the kids because there was not so much current to fight through.

The kids loved the falls. The older two pretended they were explorers and there were no adults around. They loved pretending they were foraging through undiscovered territory.


I am sure people will be shocked when they see how low the falls are in these pics. The current was still strong enough to be pulling my suit down.

The finale of the falls. I had a great deal of trouble getting the kids out of this pool.

We really enjoyed ourselves and got some jerk chicken on the way out. The kids really loved wandering around the main area. They had quite a few birds on display.

We bought some ice cream and peanuts from a vendor in the lot. Took this photo and we were off. Love the "vapors."

You all didn't expect that any trip with Junior and I would be mundane or without some detour? Junie had mentioned a doctors appointment in SavLaMar just as we were about to begin the climb up the falls. She said she had an appointment in the late afternoon and she would come part of the way and catch a cab. She said it was just down the road.

I have always wanted to see SavLaMar so I suggest we all go along and drop her off and just check out the city. After our journey through Mayfield we head to SavLaMar.

We dropped Junie at the doctor and went to find someplace where I could cash a traveller's check. Remember I mentioned by time concept problem? I didn't realize is was right at 6pm. After trying two banks I used the ATM at the last one. We then went and hung out down by the market. It was closed for the evening but maybe next time.

We spent a couple of hours just hanging out in Sav and driving around. I bought some new CDs. The kids ate Burger King. (I would have nixed this but my son really wanted it and I knew it was some what of a treat to Jm.)

There was a lot of hustle and bustle in Sav. I was there in the evening when a lot of people were out and about going home from work or their day. We even experienced a traffic jam. I just loved that in the hustle and bustle there were just the occasional goat trotting along.

We finally picked up Junie about 7:30 pm. We headed back to Randolins. The kids all fell asleep on the ride home. They were worn out from the falls. It was dark which bummed me out that I couldn't watch Jamaica fly by my window. Oh well.

Got back about 9 pm and carried the kids to bed. Started getting all of our stuff gathered together to think about packing. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] After 12 days in paradise with two kids you collect a lot of stuff and have it strewn over a large area.

Next morning I managed to get us together and after breakfast I said my goodbyes which brought the usual tears (last visit I cried the entire morning)(only a few this trip) headed to the airport. We had flown standby and the check in went amazingly smooth. (I tend to cut it close at the airport because I can never tear myself away from my happy place.) I have to maximize every moment I have. We grabbed a couple of patties and looked around the shops for only a few minutes when they called our flight.

Goodbye Jamaica!!!! Be back soon. Next trip I am taking many more pics. I guess I will have to go digital.

I enjoyed reading about your wonderful trip.

It's been a few years since I visited JA. and Mayfield Falls. We are heading down there in 2 weeks.

Could you please tell me what the cost was for the admission to Mayfield falls excluding transportation??

These are great shots Suz. I remember how strong the current is there. Quite invigorating. How about those killa steps!!
