jd - That pic was taken on the roadway away from the beach. I was standing in the area near where the road goes down the the fisherman's coop on Calabash.
Thanks for the compliments on the photos. They are taken on 35 mm film and put on a disk which may account for any differences.Comment

Woke up early the next morning. I love to sleep late but always couldn't wait to face another day in Jamaica and I get up earlier when there. Sat on the veranda and enjoyed the coffeemaker.
Note how calm the water is in this photo. By 8 am it always was full of whitecaps. I suspect these folks were from Jakes. I saw people come from there several mornings. Each group looked somewhat amateur as opposed to other boats I saw.
The only other boats I saw were fishing boats. I would watch them come into Calabash Bay to the coop from the pool deck. Moments later I could always see many people crowding around the boats buying the fish.
Later that day we walked down towards the coop.
Not much going on there when we walked by. A couple of men sitting on the porch.

Taken more down by the point where it juts out and turns back in towards Mar Blue.
Poor kid looks pretty hot and miserable. We stopped into the (Edgewater or Tidewater Inn??) can't remember the name to buy drinks.
This was as far as we walked in this direction down Calabash. Someday want to check out this place without the kids.
Took a nice dip in this little area right in front of Mar Blue.
Little suzrand enjoys the beach at that same spot.Comment

I am a chicken. I have gone several times within the last year to buy a digital and I never do. I want a decent zoom and am never happy with the ones I find in digital. One of these days I am going to get one.

The next few days were spent swimming and hanging out at Sunset and Jakes. We frequented both restaurants quite a bit and I spent time in both bars. I mentioned the grilled lobster at Sunset. Yum!! It came on recommendation from other guests as well as the aroma that wafted around the restaurant everytime one was ordered. It called to me. Had several delicious pina coladas on recommendation from T. from Georgia at Sunset's bar. I also loved the rum punch at Jakes.
My daughter at banana cake for breakfast at Jakes several mornings. They always had unusual things on the menu. One morning I had eggs benedict special - bammy topped with callaloo, smoked marlin, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. It was delicious. We also had pineapple pancakes there which were good. One morning they had a Sweeetlips special - Ackee and Bacon, I didn't try that though. They also always had coffee and tea set out for $75 JD (Not commenting on this price but using it as frame of reference). They also had several different types of small cereal boxes set out each morning (the kids loved that). I had some outstanding fruit at Jakes. Fruit seemed to be in short supply this trip. I had some unbelievable mangos ( I still have stains on my new white t-shirt) where the juice just ran down your arm each time you bit into them. I bought those and coconut cakes from the only beach vendor I encountered. Pineapple was good. Bananas in short supply but good. Limes were also a hot commodity. Papaya's (My fave) weren't good anywhere.
I really wanted to get out and do a whole lot more this trip. The kids had a great time but they seemed the most interested in swimming in the pool. I think the heat tired them quite easily. I would have liked to walk more but they just wouldn't hang with me. One morning we set out to try Trans-Love Bakery. We walked quite a ways (on kid terms) and they just begged to go get the banana cake so I gave in. Next time I would take a cab and walk back. Apparantly the bakery was further than I had estimated. By the end of our fifth day J.'s ears couldn't take all the swimming and he developed a big earache. I mentioned that I was worried to one of the owners of Sunset. She was wonderful and had brought J. some tuna (?like aloe?) to put on a sunburn earlier in the week. She had to go to Southfield on business early that same morning and she put our name in at the doctor. Later about mid day she ran us back to Southfield and waited for us and brought us back to the resort. I call her my guardian angel because I really was worried about him and didn't quite know what to do.
When we got out of TB we saw so many people out looking for water. Many trucks with water tanks strapped in their beds. Another note is that we were driving along going up towards Southfield and all of a sudden I noticed such a drop in temperature I actually had to look to see if she had turned on the AC in the car. It was so cool and nice up there.
We only had to wait for about 1/2 hour while four people went ahead of us. I felt bad knowing that those four people had probably been waiting since early that morning. If it hadn't been for the generosity of someone else helping me out I would have waited the same amount of time. The doctor was very nice. I was given the prescriptions out of his office. I ended up paying $3200 JD (app. $50 US) for a visit and 4 prescriptions (antibiotic drops, oral antibiotic, antihistamine and pain med.). I thought that was great compared to what that would cost in the States (more with my copays alone). Sad thing is that most Jamaicans can't afford that. Doctor told me that J.'s ears were very inflamed at that flying would be difficult. Sorry that my son was in pain, but love to stay four extra days for the next charter flight.
Doctor wrote me a note if I had problems with immigration. I actually never used it because the airline took care of that.
The next few days were spent lying low while J. recovered.

The goats which lived next to Sunset. Little suzrand fed them through the fence for days and named them all. She called this one "Sweetie." She also loved catching frogs at night and tormenting me with them. She was able to get me to scream several times by putting them in my face. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]
I wanted to go to Lover's Leap. Someone told me that a guest from Sunset had gone a few days before and had been told that it was closed for rennovations. I didn't want to chance the trip out there to find it closed. Another side trip for next time. Also like to do Little Ochi and Guts River.
I had big plans for the week in TB. I always list all these things I plan to do and places to visit and never get much done off that list. I end up spending a lot of time just sitting around relaxing. Our last day in Treasure Beach we finally got around to doing one day trip to Black River and Pelican Bar. Black River, Pelican Bar and our trip to the other side of the island soon come....Comment
