Re: TRIP REPORT!! 10 Days and a sore bum!
We are waiting for the tour to start and I start taking pictures. It suddenly dawn on me that it is New Years Eve. You would never know it from the quiet that surrounds us. The air is warm, the breeze from the water just right, the sun is blazing, and I am totally relaxed. Sitting on the dock for about 20 minutes was all I needed to clear my head and get me in the right mood. Red is off chatting with one of the people who works in the reception hall located right on the river, you know how everyone knows everyone somehow, someway? Well, in some round about way Red knew this girl or she knew his family. I was happy to be by myself for a few minutes sitting in solitude.

Our boat shows up and we climb in. We are joining about 10 other people, mostly Jamaicans who live abroad and our home for the holidays, on the boat. Our tour guide was a pleasure to be around. He was so entertaining and a wealth of knowledge. He shared so many facts with us, I felt like a black river expert ½ way through the tour.

This is water hyacinth. It grows out of control, in clumps on the water surface, and blocks sunlight from reaching the water below. It suffocates the river. However, it is where shrimp like to live. Our guide showed us the basket that is used to catch shrimp and I learned that shrimp can’t swim forward. Who knew?

This is one of many crocodiles I saw during the tour. This is Margaret; she is the smallest crock in the river:
