My kids are pressuring me for us to go back to Jamaica this year, but I can't manage it. Looking back on some of these pics from last year, I can understand their Jamaica hunger.

It was a bit of a road trip, a bit of A and O's excellent adventure.

Here they are at the airport in Toronto. Flight was awfully late.

we stayed in Kingston, Goshen, Mandeville, Christiana and Port Antonio. Most of the time we were on the road, driving from one place to another.

St.Elizabeth pics.

Just outside Braes River, where my father comes from. These plains are stunning in reality, the pic does no justice to the feeling you get seeing them in real life - as if the world goes on forever:



the girls in front of land where my great-great grandmother, their great-great-great grandmother and a couple of other family members are buried. i have no idea why the girls' eyes are closed.



the folks who lived in this house have all migrated. my cousins and i used to play with the kids from the house. They had a big cotton tree in front of it that we used to fraid fi pass a nighttime cause a duppy. The tree cut down.



the girls at a function for a tombing. the lady in blue was trying to talk to them, and they didn't understand a word she was saying. i was dedding with laff at their predicament. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

More St. Bess pics. We went to a family friend's house that had a pool. O was despondent because she seh her legs were "ashy" so the sun feel hotter on them and was burning them. she refused to swim in the pool and stayed in the shade. She would only push a lickle of her foot out into the sun for the purposes of the pic:

after we left st. bess and mandeville, we headed for Christiana - where we were going to meet up with a UWI group headed into the Cockpit Country to find some plants for medicinal research.

This pic was taken after we arrived in Christiana, checked into our hotel, then decided to drive up to Pike to visit family friends. Pike is close to the interior border between Manchester and Trelawny.

Cockpit Country. all i can say is : MASKITA!! mi mumma. it was like dem was starving, and decide fi get as much bite as dem could from me and mi dawta dem, caw dem no know when fresh blood a go come again. O was crying from the nuff bites, oonu can kind of see it in her face:



the cockpit country was lusher than i expected. don't know why i thought it would be mostly barren limestone - the maroons were able survive there. mostly yellow yam farming gwaan up there.

hi, Gen, glad you're enjoying the pics. tell di truth, it took me a few seconds to tune into the drawl and mek out what she was saying (which i don't remember). it's funny, most of my st. bess folks don't talk with a drawl, but more staccato.

the lady in the jeans and ball cap standing with her back to us is mi grananty, looking trendy fi a septuagenarian. she did scorn the tombing food, and wanted a ride into Santa so she could get Kentucky from the new store dem open down there.
