<u>Negril - Ochi</u> Road Directions

-From Negril drive North on Manley Blvd.
-Stay on the main Rd. Follow signs for MoBay
-In Green Island the main road will make a sharp right turn
-Approaching Lucea at the intersection make a right (self expl.)
-Passing thru Lucea, road will be 'one way'
-After about 50min you'll arrive in MoBay
-At a stop light, with a cemetary on the right, make a left
on Eldemire Dr. heading towards the Freeport (drive 700m)
-At a stoplight make a right. Follow signs to the Airport.
-You'll pass downtown MoBay on the right, beaches on your left.
-After approx. 2km, at an intersection take a left.
-You're now on Gloucester Ave "The Strip" with hotels.
-After less than 2km, make a right on Sunset Blvd. (You'll see most of the traffic make that turn. If you miss it, it's a dead end anyway.. leading to Dead End Beach.
-After 1km you reach the roundabout by the airport. Take the second left.
-Follow signs for Ochi.
-From here to Ochi it's impossible to get lost. You'll encounter a lot of construction the first 20 minutes through Ironshore. Then the new highway is self explanatory. Be very careful for police speed traps. This stretch of the road is their favourite. They're waiting under every shady tree all the way to Ochi.

-After 1h:20min you'll arrive in Ochi

However some of the most memorable drives and walks I have experienced where without a map or directions. There's nothing nicer than getting lost and found in a new place, and by accident discovering something special off the beaten path.

Went for a walk in Tunis yesterday. No map or direction. Just in search of sea-views on the hilly streets in the warm but not hot midday sun. Good times still. Found my way back eventually.

We are going there to have a look around in town and do a little clubbing after hours. Besides I am not an experienced driver at all in Jamaica. Anyone behind me will probably end up passing me by. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] I'm gonna have to try this another time. I think we will go to Dunns River just to say we did.

Look in the paper for the cruise ship schedule and try to do Dunn's River where there is no cruise ship in port. It gets too crowded with busloads of people that come in and you'll waste half a day.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that. Do they stay all day? We are only going to Ocho Rios for 1 day, so even though it may be crowded, it will be the only chance we get.

I think most cruise ships stay in port from 8AM to 4PM. The people then go on 'excursions'. Dunn's River closes at 4PM. So if you come late in the afternoon, hopefully the cruise people will be already on their way to the boat.

you can buy a good roadmap in some of the gas stations in Mobay.

it's good to have because you can just put your finger down someplace and get 'lost.'

This is from Budget Travel Online (Sept 06 print issue):


Dunns River is a very popular excursion for cruise ships, which dock at Ocho Rios on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The cruise crowds usually clear out by 2 P.M., so an afternoon visit makes sense on those days. Otherwise, early morning is usually the least crowded time to cool off at the falls.
