It was one day in California since I am also a reggae bass player and play with nuff reggae artists that I heard of Billy Mystic from the Mytstic Revealers reggae band and how he was surfing in Jamaica. We ran into each other one day in California and then I linked with him a few months later in Jamaica where we sat as his gates and reasoned about Jamaican surfing and the future of the sport, what we could do for the country using this sport as our tool and set up the works you see going on today. When ppl talk about surfing first thing comes to mind would be Hawaii [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] but learning now that ppl are riding the waves in jamaica [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
Which areas are really good for surfing there??

Jamaica has good surfing waves from Kingston to Portland. right off of the kingston airport there is a good break called lighthouse and another nearby break that is epic is the zoo, boston beach has always been a great surfing spot as well with surfers riding waves almost daily.

Patrick, my son was born in JA and didn't get interested in surfing until he came to US. We emailed you guys about a year ago and never heard back. How can we link with someone from your group in JA?

In speaking with Billy today about the quashi surfing team also the National Surfing team for Jamaica, I found out that a friend of Jamaica and professional surfer from the US will be supporting Jamaica by assisting with coaching for the quashi/national surf team. Dan Malloy who recently visited Jamaica to surf and fell in love with the culture and surfers has taken on the yard love and will be meeting up with Billy on Saturday to fly to Ecuador and help out Jamaica. You can see the hype that could bring for Jamaica and its surfing.

Do you have a school ??
I noticed in one of your replies you mentioned Olympic team Are they all j'cans?
If yes to question 1, where is it located, how many students are enrolled and what age group??

Billy and his youth have set up thier own surf school to help to promote and teach surfing in Jamaica. The students range in age from 4 years old to adults. Currently the schools are running during the off school season based in Bull Bay. My other company that my partner Keita Kischina and I are starting to work on now, Deciple Bodyboards, are looking into supplying the soft surfboard needs that will help the school to grow. Bodyboards are a smaller softer vesion of a wave riding equipment that one usually (but not allways as skills progress) lays down on and rides waves. This can be used to teach one about the ocean and wave knowledge, but now with surfing growing we are looking to make standup surfboards in the soft materials for safer learning. In the near future we will be able to supply those to Jamaica in addition to the quashi surfboards now in Jamaica.

I believe the courses are day courses although may be looking at increasing to individual sessions that could be set up according to needs.
