Quashi surfboards can be found in Jamaica at Jamnesia Surf Club in Bull Bay, just past Copacabana Beach or soon at the factory in Yallahs, just look for the green, gold and black building with the quashi logo on it on the beach side of the road in Yallahs.

Sis, The main thing that I would say about our surfboards that they have been tested in surf all over the world and proven to work. Quashi surfboards have been tested by both professional surfers and amatures in Puerto Rico, US,Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Brazil and in varying surf sizes from small to huge. Here at Quashi, the boards are shaped by both hand and computer, depending on what the customner wants(although even the computer aided designed boards are finished by hand) this aids in getting a board that is specifically built for your needs and wants. Also, time involved in surfing helps as many surfboard makers now do not even surf so they are only doing what they see not what they know.

On one of the web sites there's a picture of two of Billy's sons with a huge stack of used boards behind them (with the joke caption who's gonna make the call to quashi for new boards)

Are the 'used' board refinished / recycled or do they become junk?

As for the production of Boards in Jamaica, Billy Wilmot, Eugene Miller and another bredrin Norman have sat down for a meeting and discussed the upcomming work to be done to establish a manufacturing of quashi surfboards as well as apparell, and accessories in Mr. Millers Yallahs factory space. The details are in the works as funding must be set up and the proper buisness licensure must be set up as well with Jampro and the varying buisness offices of both US and Jamaican governments. We also have begun discussions with Lawyer Kenny Augier to help in the matter and get things rolling. As of now, it looks as if we will start production of the apparel as we would like to re-utilize the garment industry that used to strive in Jamaica by manufacturing some of the clothing directly in Jamaica. I also have been working with a friend here in California to assist us in setting up the ability to manufacture the Leashes that are used to keep the board from getting away from you when surfing and that production is looking to start any time now. The component parts are already bieng made so that will get things rolling. The surfboards themselves will be a longer process to get started due to the lack of materials and the duties involved in bringing in the materials. Billy and I did speak to a man who may be able to help in the bringing in of the speciality resins (most of the resin used in Jamaica is for boats and is not clear, although the quality is good this will not work for surfboard manufacturing.) I also have been speaking with a US based resin company that can help us to set up a Ultra Violet based resin that will speed up time of curing and will eliminate waste. Since Jamaica is so beautiful, I do not want to have a lot of waste to get rid of, so this is another option.

These used boards get old and the resin and fiberglass start to crack and leak so they become heavy. Now they are bieng recycled to the young youth that can not afford boards and are used for rental boards. sooner or later though they will become non functional. At that time one can use them for signs, decorations or art. I have seen some great surfboard art...

As for the conditions in Ecuador, the surf is a bit different as the beaches there are not so much reef on the bottom as Jamaica so the waves do not break as fast and hollow. this will be a challenge for the Jamaican team as they are used to a fast wave with a lot of punch. The team has been training for a while and are surfing real strong. I have been sponsoring Ishack, Ini, Icah and Billy Wilmot, Luke Williams and recently Eugene Miller so they are all riding newer boards that will help them to perform great against the competition.

As there are not many waves in Ochi, the surf would be better back on the eastern to southern shores. There are two contests that people can go to check out and watch Jamaican surfing in action - July 10 will host the 1st event of the National Junior championships at Cable Hut Beach, 8 miles, Bull Bay event starts at 9:00 am and July 17th at 10am will be the second contest of the junior series at Longbay in Portland - a bit closer for those who would love to attend.

As of now, I have not heard anything from the Jamaica tourist board as to thier study but I would like to put this out to any Jamaican in touch with people at the tourist board - Jamaicans are surfing, competing and representing Jamaica in a sport that last year was in the 10s of billions of dollars. the sport of surfing has been around for many, many years and the ideal for any surfer is to travel to a warm, tropical environment where the waves are good, the water is warm, the people are nice and the food is good. if that doesnt describe Jamaica... Man, Billy and I have made this our lives to put Jamaica on the surfing map - anyone who is willing to help us out feel free to contact me at [email protected] at any time.
