Ivrol D. Hines Publisher, New York Liberty Star Newspaper
Ivrol Hines, hails from Trelawny, Jamaica and migrated to the U.S. in his early teens. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, where he was active not only in sports, but as a member in The Future Business Leaders of America Club. Ivrol maintained a high academic standard and graduated high school with honours.
Among his many accomplishments he was honored by the City Council of New York as a "Role Model of the Year," for his academics and community service (1993); assumed responsibilities within the Caribbean Student Association while enrolled at Pace University (1993); enlisted in the United Stated Marine Corps to serve as a combat correspondent (1996); Graduated at the top of his class in Journalism & Broadcasting, Defense Information School, Fort Meade Md.; Lance Corporal Hines was assigned to this first duty station, Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, N.C.; became the senior editor of the Air Station’s by-weekly newspaper which won three U.S.M.C. and two Thomas Jefferson awards for the best military paper in its category while under his command; founded Marine Corps Weekly, the official newsletter serving the entire Marine Corps worldwide; awarded Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his accomplishments in journalism and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; Sergeant Hines separated from the Marine Corps in May 2001 with a honorable discharge.
He returned to New York where he served as editor for several local newspapers, until in April 2001, Ivril’s dreams were realized with the creation of the New York Liberty Star Inc., and the publication of it’s bi-weekly newspaper. In the past three years, Ivrol has far exceeded most goals, and his accomplishments and commendations continued with his membership in the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce & Industry; named as one of CACCI's Year 2002 Business Visionaries; and his Company has been recognized by the New York State Assembly, The New York City Council, The New York Senate and the Brooklyn Borough President's Office. Ivrol continues to live in Brooklyn with his wife and daughter.
