I must first congratulate you Mr. Stokes, for writing your story. History was made in 1988 when you and your team mates brought Jamaica to people who now know that we are "likle but tallahwah".

How are you using your experience to reach the Jamaican youth who have big dreams but feel there is no hope?

We have retained the services of sports agents to land sponsorship/merchandising deals for us. The business is very cyclical with a lot of interest around the Olympics. Unfortunately we need funds three years before that. The unpredicatability of the entire process is frustrating.
I am not sure what kind of online efforts you are thinking of but we have not pursued any activley.
Since the original payment many years ago we have not recieved a royalty check from Disney. The say they have not made enough money to trigger the royalty payment.
In the absense of a 501C corporation in the USA, Jamaicans living abroad are welcomed to make contributions to the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation which is supervised by the Jamaica Olympic Association.

No. While we were not welcomed by many of the European teams we were treated fairly by the race officials.

You would think that with the tremendous success, growth and popularity the team has had since the initial competitive year... fundraising would be much easier, especially with the expansion of the men's team and branching out into a women's team as well. [/qb]

We thought the same but the truth is the arena is very competitive for the type of money we need to field a medal contending team. Still we press on.

me....i feel u on this part....lass time i checked which was back in di days , the soundtrack had sold 625,000 copies and some artists neva get dem royalty.....

btw have pictures of the tour from the kickoff in Miami to the big show at Madison. Sq Gdns...couple of u guys were at the Madison show and eena di pickchas along wid di sled [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Amazing... and almost everyone in North America owns or has rented the movie or watched it many times over
