***UPDATE***
Jeun'Espoir Afrique (which means Youth Hope Africa) is a branch of the
non-profit organization Jeun’Espoir Jamaïque Inc., based in Ottawa,
Canada. It is a group which is made up of 11 young adults who,
accompanied by a few lesser young adults, will live a humanitarian aid
experience by expressing their solidarity with the needy of the Third
World. During the month of August 2004, they will travel to the
poverty-stricken areas and prisons of Benin, Africa in order to lend
their assistance in various projects ranging from teaching, medical
help, construction and painting to cleaning and social work. They will
devote their time, energy, love and vacation time in order to help
inhabitants of some of the most impoverished areas of our world.
To follow up on their previous similar experience in Jamaica in previous
years, we want to continue to enrich the lives of these energetic and
willful youth, this time spending a longer period of time in a different
culture. In the wave of Canadian help to Africa, we would like to join
in and help our contacts, The Prison Fellowship International: Benin
Section, in their humanitarian endeavors.
Each participant contributes 3000$ to substantiate his or her engagement
and takes part in various fundraisers to pay the trip's numerous
expenses such as computers, medical supplies, school supplies, tools and
paint. We hope to fundraise a total of 20 000$ before leaving.
