Between the first time and the second time I would say it was around 10 years. The only thing that could have altered my 'opinion' is if I was distracted by company. I was alone.. I was retrospective; I was observing; and because I was on my own during the time the memoir of experiences was formulated, I noticed everything. If I had been on a honeymoon or with friends the outcome would have been different because I would have been otherwise engaged with the frivolities of life.

Thank you. I am hoping that Sangsters Bookshop in Kingston will order some -- put the word out, ask the bookshops for the book and it will have to reach Jamaica some how some way... because it is where the kernal was born!

((Myrna)) Any suggestions or recommendations for others, especially the youth, who may be facing a similar problem with their own identity (born elsewhere and not feeling connected to their parents homeland)? We've had a lot of younger members come on line searching to 'fit in' and learn a little more about their culture, traditions and everyday life.

Books work on demand. Enough people ask for the book the book stores have to stock it. In England here, one book shop has just bought 50 because they know at least 50 people are going to be at my launch and will buy the book. If there is no demand, the bookshops will not want to buy the book -- so how long will it take to reach America or Jamaica -- when there is a demand for it. I am trying to set up an e-commerce which will make it easier to sell internationally.

The youth today need a lot of guidance. They are placed in a similar situation as I was and left to fend for themselves. Switching between cultures is stressful. Being bi-patriotic is stressful. It is much easier to belong to either one culture or the others, Jamaica or British but it is not the case, so we as dual-cultured individuals have to learn to embrace both cultures and not try to favour one over the other but use the best out of each to benefit us and help us to grow.

We had one youth in particular in the UK... who had been seperated from his (Jamaican) father at an early age and I believe his mother was Caucasian ... at any rate, he had no connection to the Jamaican side of his family and was in quite a quandry fitting in (and getting past a lot of resentment towards racist members of his mothers' side of the family.)

Wow I can really relate to your theme of being trapped between 2 cultures as I was born in Ja and raised in Canada.

I'm curious to know your opinion re: tourism as a whole. Do you think the tourism indsutry is more of an asset or a liability for Jamaican society? Do you have any ideas for tweaking our model of tourism to eliminate some of the disadvantages? (Example: make it more like Cuba's industry.)

I am platinum blonde.. and believe me it does confuse them!!

Only one more question?? You can pose as many as you like for the next 40 minutes but yes, I have seen it. It was shown as a series over here. Had I thought about it at the time I would have recorded it. Why do you ask?
