The whole world has responded to the tsunami in south asia, and rightfully so.

11 countries hit bad nuff death, could go to maybe 300 000 by time it all done who knows maybe more.


They said it hit Africa, has anyone heard any numbers about Africa more than once?

Anyhow mi a wundah, how come everyone is so upset because of a few hundred thousand, but no one nuh feel nuh way bout de millions who a dead through out Africa, South America, Haiti???

Is my thinking off this time?

The obvious answer is that most of these countries are populated by black people.
The only time that 'white rich industrial countries' show any interest in black countries is out of guilt or for self-interest.

As many people are being affected by their 'man made' disaster in the Sudan...as are being affected by the tsunami. Death...repercussions...disease...the whole 9. It's one of the reasons why I responded the way I did in the other thread that dahJah started tonight...but only one of the reasons. Is it solely because the innocent victims in the Sudan are Black? No...I really don't think so. But it's gotta be part of it. Those that can't fathom civil war seem to think that the victims deserve what they get. While those toppled by weather are to be supported...because weather can nail us all. As the world gets smaller...so do minds.

I don't think you're off at all Dajah.

Disasters (both natural and man-made) in Africa especially are generally seen to be the fault of the inhabitants.

And after the US and France got their bottoms spanked in Somalia and the Ivory Coast respectively, western nations are not going back for anymore.

Since they don't want to get involved, it would be nice if they would pay fair prices for raw materials, stop supporting dictators, and stop selling weapons. That would go a long way in reducing man-made disasters and cost less than air-lifting bags of rice and sugar or welcoming refugees.

I guess when yuh have conflict backed by certain nations in order to get raw material of such a nation den why bother help the ppl.

I was trying to see if I found the full story line but this is all I found. The guy was a Sudanese-American black CEO who had recently visited africa and saw them kill his uncle and raped his sister. What *I" thought was interesting was before the lawyer took the case, she basically told the guy that "the american people have spoken, they don't care". Then she went and found some law that made the case viable in court. The judge basically upheld the case saying that as a super power the US had a duty to intervene, and their lack thereof prevented other countries from doing so.

African countries donate to help tsunami victims

    YAOUNDE, Jan. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 20 African nations have pledged funds to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in south and southeast Asia, a variety of reports reaching here Tuesday said.

    Zimbabwe is said to have started a Tsunami Disaster Fund to mobilize relief support to the victims. An executive committee comprising representatives from the private sector, churches and government departments has been set up to execute the relief mobilization effort.

    Committee chairman Ray Ndhlukula said Zimbabwe's assistance is expected to reach 20 billion Zimbabwean dollars (about 3.5 millionUS dollars) and will be channeled to Indonesia, the worst hit country.

    Gabon President El Hadj Omar Bongo urged African leaders meeting in Gabon's capital Libreville to collect more money to assist the disaster-hit countries.

    Meanwhile, the International Federation of the Red Cross confirmed that Mozambique, one of the world's poorest countries, has donated 100,000 US dollars to tsunami victims.

    By contrast, the continent's two richest countries -- South Africa and Nigeria -- are donating 1.4 million and 1.0 million US dollars respectively.

    Earlier, the Senegalese government announced a 200,000 US dollar donation to the tsunami victims and Mauritius offered 250,000 US dollars.

    Niger, Mali and Equatoriaa Gunea also pledged relief help whileKenya and Tunisia have already sent materials and medical teams tothe affected countries.

    In a separate development, envoys of 17 Arab countries met withIndonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Jakarta on Tuesday to convey a collective pledge of long-term efforts for tsunami victims.

    The 17 countries are Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

    But the Arab countries did not elaborate on the total amount oftheir collective assistance.

    Yemeni envoy Ahmed Salim Alwahishi said the Arab countries willhelp rebuild hospitals, and supply clean water, medicine and food.

I would like to know what about GRENADA, THE CAYMAN ISLAND, Grenada lost 80 - 90 percent of the island and there was not 1/10 the support. what about
Rwanda?..in 1994 over 1000,000 people died in the massacre. The whole ting is DUTTY
