Similar in the sense that I like to explore the way I feel because I find the way I feel in various situations is similar to others only that some people may not write it down.

The idea of space and identity is in the introduction written by Sistah D. I think it explains it really well.

Over here, Jamaicans 'run tings'. Jamaicans have charisma, strength. There is something exciting about the culture. The British culture lacks vibrancy so we edge towards the culture that is more exciting. My parents are Jamaican and I wanted to be a part of that.

your circle of frends primarily Jcan, partly Jcan or very few Jcan? Most of my friends are Jamaican and my family is Jamaican, and there is a whole heap of Jamaicans over here.

what cultures are u most comfertebble with? I am now comfortable with both cultures but accept that my British culture is stronger.

Welcome Myrna and thanks again for sharing the series with Jamaicans.com. It was the first serial/online soap we had and it has been quite a hit. Well here are my questions.

After "living" like a Jamaican for the timeframe mentioned in the book do you feel closer to the culture?

Are you still close to the people you met in Jamaica during that time?

Spending time with Jamaicans in Jamaica is totally different than spending time with Jamaicans in England. Jamaicans in England are not the same, they need to adapt to survive and be accepted over here. So with adaptation comes compromise.. with compromise comes lack of culture.

Well I think being a black writer is easier if you have a story that people want to here. Being an artist, while I love it is left down to how many people you can get to come to your venue. With books, they are much more accessible, and much cheaper!!

No I have not kept in touch with them - I have tried but not everyone has the gift of communication or indeed wants to communicate. For some it takes a lot of effort. My book is a tribute to them though

My question is this...
Between the first time you visited Jamaica and the second time (honeymoon), how long of a period was that? Also, do you think that going to JA during that period of time would have altered your opinion and the outcome of the book in any way?

I did a "JamaicArt" painting series for Jamaican Independence for the Consulate in New York, so you will find a few of them feature the colours of the Jamaican National flag.

When I paint I am not a calculating painter I do not think and structure my work.. it is straight from the brush to the canvas. I leave it to the viewer to interpret my work.
