I don't think I think much about 'atmosphere' when I am writing. I am more focussed on the characters - I see them in their setting, so perhaps the atmosphere arises out of that. I am assuming that we are talking about fiction writing here? This might not be an adequate reply, it might be easier to reply to something more specific. So spell it out a but more for me.

And Hey, why don't you just let that little creative streak out?

Yea, the web, e-mail, word of mouth, etc. and book launchings where possible. I'm happy to hear from anyone with ideas. Distribution and promotion (of any book) without a massive budget is the hardest thing. So please pass the word on....

((MissP)) one of the ways the Encyclopaedia was brought to my attention was from an emailed Media Release I received from the publisher... I had intended to contact Olive earlier (as a result of a taped radio session here) but the announcement encouraged my prompt attention - and the publishers were thrilled!

the result... Olive is here with us today!

When 'I' receive notices like this, I forward them to my various memberships, or sometimes post them here on ja.com for those of us who visit the Events Calendar / or Feedback forums

Thanks for mentioning A Different Booklist. They are doing a fantastic job of promoting Caribbean books in Toronto - including the Encyclopedia.

I wasn't thinking about the content really - I was thinking about when you sit down to write... music, candles, darkness with one home-sweet-home [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] (just kidding)...

I know I need some amount of solitude to write... and certainly cool, calming sounds and smells help... of course, when the bug bites, you don't always have the chance to create such an atmosphere, you just have to take out the first thing you can find and start writing... but generally, what works for you?
