The Opposition, People's National Party, has condemned Friday's stabbing death of a Police Constable in St Catherine. The 31-year old Constable, Stijan Wood, who was attached to the Mobile Reserve, was killed during a dispute with a family member in Waterloo, St Catherine. According to the Constabulary Communication Network about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Constable Wood was at his mother's home when a relative came to see him. A dispute reportedly developed between the two and Constable Wood was stabbed during the incident. He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he died while being treated. He is the 14th police personnel to be killed this year. Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting, said the death of the Constable is disheartening as only a few weeks ago another Constable, Dwayne Brown was killed by criminals in St Andrew. Bunting said the police must remain vigilant as a decrease in major crimes since May appears to be reversing.
