The Jamaica Cancer Society received $837,504 from proceeds of sales of Yoplait yogurt between October 1 and November 13. OGNR identified the Yoplait Pledge as a Cause in early October. During the period, eight dollars from each cup of Yoplait were donated to the JCS, just in time to help the JCS which has faced a stark shortfall on its fundraising effots since the start of the year.William Mahfood, announced that the campaign had been highly successful, allowing us to donate an amount well above the guaranteed minimum and the amount donated last year. He thanked Yoplait lovers, retailers and corporate and civic groups for their support. "Wisynco is quite encouraged by the results of the campaign as this is an indication that Jamaicans are more committed to a healthier lifestyle, more knowledgeable of the benefits of yogurt and more aware of the importance of breast cancer screening," Mr. Mahfood reported. Mr. Mahfood also thanked the leadership of celebrities who took the Yoplait Pledge and who lent their star power to raising awareness of the importance of breast self exam and screening for women. Celebrities who supported the campaign were Deon Hemmings-McCatty, Olympian; Beverley Anderson-Manley broadcaster and gender specialist; Cherine Anderson actress and singer; Empress, radio personality; Tessanne Chin, recording artiste; and Sara Lawrence Ms Jamaica World 2006, who also served as official spokesperson for the campaign. "With the combined efforts of a wonderful team we not only exceeded the monetary limit set but also (and most importantly) raised a profound awareness of breast cancer and the crucial part we all have to play in fighting it. The buck doesn't stop here, my final wish would be for all women (and men) to acknowledge the role that they have to play in the fight against breast cancer. While corporations such as Wisynco continue to champion this cause in a big way and allow consumers to take part and "Save Lids" everyone has a part to play in breast cancer as we aspire to "Save Lives," Ms Lawrence remarked. Companies and Civic Group which rallied around the Flower of Hope component of the Campaign were Brijade Fitness, Coral Cliff Hotel, Guardian Life Ltd, Gymkhana, Jamaica Money Market Brokers, Kiwanis Club of Providence, Shakti Fitness Centre and Spartan Health Club. "Wellness is an important part of our social outreach work among staff and clients, so this campaign was a fun way of meeting that objective, while supporting the Jamaica Cancer Society. We also contribute a donation from the sale of each of our Ultimate Provider life insurance plan to the Jamaica Cancer Society. this is paid over annually, so we were happy to enhance our contributions via the Save Lids Save Lives campaign," said Eric Hosin, President of Guardian Life.
