The Coke/Manatt Commission of Enquiry, which was set up by Prime Minister Bruce Golding in October is to officially get underway on Monday morning. The Enquiry, which is chaired by Attorney at Law, Emil George is to hold its first sitting at 10 'o clock at the Jamaica Conference Centre.The other two Commissioners are retired Permanent Secretary, Anthony Irons and attorney at law, Donald Scharschmidt.The Commission will determine what led to the Jamaica Labour Party's hiring of US law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips to lobby against the extradition of alleged drug kingpin Christopher "Dudus" Coke to the United States.It will also determine if there was any misconduct on the part of public officials who were involved.The Commission has been mandated to make recommendations for the referral of those individuals to the relevant authority or disciplinary body for appropriate action.A notice from the Commission says persons who wish to assist the probe should present written statements.The Commissioners plan to use Monday's sitting to present the ground rules for the conduct of the hearings. The Supplementary Estimates tabled in Parliament last week, revealed that the Government has allocated $40 million to pay for the Commission which is expected to sit for three months.
